Yes, you should. You can't "do" what you don't understand.

Until then, here's some links to get you started:

ive read quite alot about the diet on the internet which includes the information given in the links so i have a fairly good understanding to how it works and what i can eat.

but im still struggling to find a selection of things i can take to work.

also the diet seems very expensive.

Read the book buddy! As far as lunch, I always make a really yummy salad with chicken or chicken/ tuna/ egg salad with some celery sticks. I also bring an ounce of cheese and a sugar free jello.

"Doing" Atkins without reading the book is like practicing medicine without going to med school. What you have read is other peoples opinions and views of Atkins. Read the book first. Good luck!!

Re: What can i take to work for lunch?

I found my grocery/eating out bills actually went down once I started induction!

Not buying all those processed 'snacks' and ready meals really cut down the cost, allowing me to buy fresh veggies, cream, cheese, eggs and the usual amount of meat I was already buying works out cheaper than my old habits of shopping did.

Do you have access to a fridge and microwave at work?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Oh... as far as cost, cut coupons, watch for sales, shop at discount grocery stores. This doesn't have to be an expensive WOE. It's all in choices. You can buy a huge pack of chicken legs/ thighs, for a reasonable price, and a couple bags of frozen veggies and there's your weeks worth of dinner. Experiment different chicken recipes so you don't get bored.

What equipment do you have at work? Do you have access to a refrigerator, a microwave or toaster oven?

I bring a real meal to work everyday: some kind of cooked veggie, sometimes a vegetable soup, some kind of meat. I heat it up in the microwave.

The diet is only expensive if you make it expensive , ie buy a lot of steaks. Cheaper cuts of meat like chuck roasts or chicken parts might be a large investment at first, but you can often cook it once and eat these cuts for several meals. For example, ground meat---saute a couple of pounds seasoning it only with salt and pepper. Store in the frig and throughout the week you can have the ground meat in different ways: added to a quiche, mixed with sauteed onions and garlic and herbs for a burrito filling (use lettuce leaves as the tortilla shell) or layer that mixture between slices of zucchini and/or eggplant and cheese, bake it for a lasagna. Etc.

By the way, I know you aren't just going to be eating "plenty of meat and eggs" for your meals because you know that you have to eat vegetables on Atkins and that too much protein is converted to sugar which is eventually stored as body fat. So look over that veggie list: there are plenty of stirfry type veggies on it.

Yeah you should read the book. For me, becoming a "true believer" made all the difference. If you're doing it to lose weight, that alone may not be tenable. If you understand why this diet is way more healthy, then you'll stick with it over time.

Regarding lunches, you can build or buy sandwiches that use lettuce instead of bread! Also I think salads with meat are a big hit.

You can take ready cooked food to heat up by carrying it in a cooler bag - either one with those cool packs you put in the freezer or you can freeze a plastic bottle 3/4 full with water and use that as an ice pack in an insulated bag and also have a bottle of cold water to drink after lunch.

Prepare extra food when you cook your evening meal so you have leftovers to take with you, or make a crustless quiche now and again so you can take a few slices in for lunch - these can have your veggies as well as meat in them so give you a balanced Atkins meal.

If you like soups you can make them easily by just purééing cooked veg and meat and adding stock/cream/water and butter to bring the fat content up. Soup will only take a minute or so to heat up at work.

If you don't have a fridge, get a lunchbox and ice packs and use that. That's what I do. We have a fridge but food is always being stolen or messed with here.
