I have read on here somewhere or in someones post that it is good to drink 1/2 your body weight in oz of water. So I mentioned it to hubby last night and he told me that all I needed was 64 oz and anything over that would be a waste of time. I have been researching the internet and finding conflicting information, so I thought I would check on here. Can anyone tell me the benefits of drinking more than 64 oz? Or if it really doesn't matter. Thanks....

Re: What's up with all the water.....
Your body handles water fairly rapidly and the more you consume, the faster it becomes at handling it. The up side of that is your body flushes out the cellular wastes faster, helps to regulate body salts and aids in weight loss. The down side is, you spend more time in the restroom and you could deplete potassium stores. Keep up your vitamins and micronutrients and all should be fine.
I, 6 ft four inch, 290 pounds manage to drink just short of 200 oz of water per day.

64 oz is not enough for someone on induction. You will probably be dehydrated with only 64 oz. Every BODY is different. I need atleast 100 oz but honestly don't feel I had enough until I reach atleast 125 oz.

Well, many of us find that drinking 1/2 our current weight in ounces of water is what works.
I'm sure your husband means well with his advice ... is he also doing Atkins with you?J.

Re: What's up with all the water.....
I have the worse time with drinking water...the more I drink the more my body holds it in for days it seems like..It's so unpleasant to me, its like drinking poison LOL.. I have to drink 10 gulps down at a time to get it down... LOL I wish I knew the trick for drinking it..

Some people find drinking with a straw is better.
Sometimes it's temperature.
You also have to decide you're going to drink it all.

Your body will retain what it needs/wants. This should be a lesson that you're not drinking enough.J.

Yeah I have all kinds of straws, that loop de loop and cute little cups.. and I take a sip of coffee and then 10 sips of water..or I bring it on the treadmill with me.. or promise myself I can't eat lunch before I drink water... it really is my cross to bear, is that water...but I think I am up to 8 glasses a day now...

You could put slices of cucumber in the water to make it taste less 'watery'

Re: What's up with all the water.....
Thanks for all the information! I've slowly been trying to increase my intake, but making sure to get at least 64 oz. I would really like to increase to 1/2 body weight just because it works for so many people and I don't seem to be losing weight like I want. Weight loss practically stopped the 2nd week of induction.
atkinsgal08 ~ yes hubby is doing Atkins with me. I think it because he has always heard that the golden number of water is 64 oz, so he thinks as long as he drinks that amount then everything is fine. Anything over that amount will not benefit anymore than the 64 would.280.2/270.0/120

As he knows from reading the Rules of Induction, 64 ounces is the MINIMUM. It's clearly implied that drinking more is acceptable. I don't think one can make the leap of thought that anything more has no benefit.
