  • 10 days, 2 lbs !!

It doesn't seem right. I've been Atkinsian for 10 days and have only lost 2 lbs--this after running for 1 hour 4xweek on top of the Atkins eating plan.

Strips say I am in "moderate" ketosis, though the reading are inconsistent--sometimes only "trace". . .

There are two things I think it MIGHT be: 1) I'm on effexor, which anecdotally can prevent weightloss or 2) I have had a cup of caffinated coffee each day. I think I'd die without it--

    Any thoughts? I'm majorly demoralized . . .

Some people find that induction isn't right for them because their bodies try to hold onto that weight all that much harder - especially when you don't have too much weight to lose to begin with.

Sure - it could be the antidepressant, or it could be the caffeine...or it could be both. Or it could be that you need to eat more carbs to effectively lose weight.

2 lbs is nothing to sneeze at. Sure, it's not 10 or 15 like some of us lose on those first two weeks, but when you think about it - those first two weeks of Atkins weight loss is usually attributed to our glycogen stores being depleted, and for those of us with edema problems - our swelling drastically reduces. You may very well have had low glycogen stores, and zero swelling.

So - keep doing what you're doing, 2 lbs is better then no lbs. And time to start moving up that carb ladder!!

You don't have so much to lose, so your rate of loss will be slower.

You have 28 pounds in total to lose, and losing 10% of what you want to lose (in total) on Induction is a great rate of loss.

        10% of 28 pounds is 2.8 pounds.

        Feel better?

If you are on your 14-day Induction, as your profile says, then you can't be stalled. A stall is four consecutive weeks without loss of inches or pounds.

As Atkinsgal said, a loss of 2 pounds in 10 days is about right for maybe losignng 10% of your total hoped-for loss already which is great going

            Keep up the good wok
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

You're not alone, if that helps. It took me 14 days to lose 2 lbs. Like you I don't have a huge amount to lose. I'm going to cut out my single daily "half-caff" coffee and see if it speeds things up any. (First I'm going to have to go "quarter-caff" for a little while to wean off it, though.)

Interesting information. I wondered what made the difference.

Hey, thanks for your various input. I guess you're right that 2 lbs is not too shabby, if you look at the percentages. I'm going to try to wean a bit off the coffee; decaf americano kind of psychologically feels like the real deal. . .

But I have a question, WetBanana; you said:

"it could be that you need to eat more carbs to effectively lose weight"

                    - - hmmm. I'm not exactly sure why? I thought maybe I needed to go down even further on the carbs. . .

By keeping your carbs too low, you might not be getting all the nutrients your body needs... and some nutrient deficiencies can interfere with weight loss.

Very often, the simpler one's menu is and the more net carbs one "spends" on vegetables, the better one's weight loss rate is.

Your weight loss rate might never be what you want it to be though.
