    Re: Is atkins for life?

I don't think atkinsgal08 was belittling anyone's choices. Shes just supporting Atkins. This is the ADBB, right? LOL! The admirals and moderators are here to make sure people are understanding this WOE. They don't want newbies thinking this back and forth thing (between Atkins and other "diets") will work for everyone and someone end up being trapped in a yo-yo diet. I think this is one of those conversations where people just need to agree to disagree, put a smile on their faces, and continue with their day.

Peoples choices are their own, no one elses. If you decide to lose weight on Atkins WOE and switch to something else than that is your choice.

I am just one of those who thinks, no matter how you lose the weight, if you do go back to horrible eating habits, then you gain the weight back plus more...Thru all of my years of failing every diet, the one thing I have finally learned with Atkins is, with healthier eating and some exercise, you know a little work, that you can lose weight, be healthier.. lower blood pressure, blood sugars etc...so if its working, why change that...as an example I started Atkins when my blood pressure was 212/110....yesterday at the Doctor's it was 140/70.....I know that everyone has to find the eating plan that is right for them, however seriously its all about crappy eating and then going back to the crappy eating after you lose the weight...I feel that maintenance is the key and its the hardest part anyway, its alot easier to do what your doing then changing...For what its worth that's my 2 cents...

        Re: Is atkins for life?

Changing doesn't have to lead to yo-yo dieting though. You can change from one plan to another and if you stick to plan you can continue to loose, break stalls etc. The key is sticking to whatever plan you change to. Or you stick to healthy eating without a plan if you feel you are ready, whatever works do it.

I don't think anyone has to stick to one eating plan to lose all of their weight. If they get burned out on one and dont' enjoy that woe anymore find another that fits your needs. Just find something so you aren't tempted to go back to bad habits.

As for the military you do not get to go in and say oh sorry I can't have sugar or carbs. Can you fix my meat with no seasoning, or can you make sure that dressing is less than 2 carbs per serving. Sure you have choices, you can eat what is provided or go hungry, that is your choice. They dont' do special orders to keep your woe in check. While you can pass up desserts or something if you want, you have very little control over what goes in your mouth as far as ingredients go. What's in it is what you get.

          Re: Is atkins for life?

Poobears in theory that sounds great... if your bored with one way of life then go to another.. however for me personally and I am only speaking about me...that's what got me in this trouble to begin with...because I never did one diet and saw it thru to maintenance..some of us can not do that...I got bored with Weight Watchers and started binging and gained everything plus back..and every other diet I have been on... so to me its better to be serious about losing the weight and sticking to one plan...I really really admire people like Atkinsgal...Liv..Mitzi etc who saw it thru and live their life by it..its really a big motivator for me.. but that's what makes life great the choices we have...

            Re: Is atkins for life?

I've gone off and binged before and regained when I got bored with a diet so I totally understand. That is why I said you need to find another to go to. Once I learned I could change plans (as long as I stuck to it) I've been fine and able to keep the weight off with out the bounce back bingeing.

Won't work for everyone but it works for me when I stall out or get bored on one to move to another, the change gets things started again and gets me refocused.

BTW congrats on the lower bp #'s. Keep an eye on them that they don't go too low with your meds (I assume you are on meds with your high initial #'s?). If you start feeling light headed or just totally wiped out get your #'s checked again.

I've never been in basic training, though I have several family members that are enlisted, I've never had a discussion about how they eat...I really would not worry too much about it, I've never been witness to anybody coming out of basic training fatter than when they went in. Like someone else stated, you know what foods are good and which ones are not, unless they expect you to eat every drop of food in front of you (which they could I guess) eat what you know is healthy and leave the rest.

When I was in Basic Training in the Reserves (National Guard in the U.S.) they DID make you eat everything on your plate. In fact, they piled the baked beans right on top of the pancakes, on top of the scrambled eggs, and fried potatoes. Every meal you got a portioned serving, and you were expected and often forced to eat it in a certain time period, and your plate had to be cleaned. The diet that they serve is engineered by "nutritionists" to give you the energy and nutrients you need to survive the physical requirements of Basic. I loved Basic, and I didn't gain an ounce of fat. I gained all muscle. A lot of it. I am working my way back to that muscled physique I had when I was 18.

Basic is a blast. I hope you really enjoy it.

Scary, glad you got it down though before something happened. I was on meds for several years to keep mine down. Never had a problem with it (except when pregnant) until after last DD but never had much of a problem with weight until then either so it's definitely linked for me.

Dr. took me off my meds last week because my readings were waaaaaaay too low. Still having problems with it, can't seem to get my bp to stay up where it should be now. Go from one extreme to another LOL

LOL have 1 teen at home (he'll be 16 this year), have another that will be a teen in later this year and 2 more that aren't far behind. Oldest fractured his ankle recently and we've been driving hours to orthopedist appts, cat scans, yes he has to have surgery, no surgery can wait one more week, back for more cat scans next week. UGH you'd think that would be enough to get the #'s back up. Maybe I'm just too mellow

                            Re: Is atkins for life?

Thanks, his was from a school roller blading trip. I feel bad since end of year is when all the fun trips are, he's missing out on one to the bowling alley next week and one to Silver Dollar City a week after that. Just can't risk it right now. If his cat scan shows the bone hasn't moved any further he won't need surgery. But if it moves before next weeks cat scan even a little he has to have it.

We have a vacation in about 5.5 weeks to FL. I have no idea how long things like this take to heal. I read on most sites 4 months for fractured ankles. So I guess he'll still be on crutches when we go. If that's the case I'll take along a wheel chair. Would be torture to walk those theme parks in the sun on crutches.

Hope your son is doing well now.
