  • Atkins Bars or Shakes

    Hi Everyone,

My move is finally set for April 29th. That is the day I leave here for our new home. I am really going crazy with all the details and packing and whatever, while keeping on plan. I have not eaten any non Atkins food, but I have not been eating proper amounts. Yesterday was another Birthday lunch, this time for me. Anyway, my sister gave me a bunch of Atkins bar and shake coupons, to help me through the transition. Food prep will be VERY limited the last few days here, and then there is the flight to Calif, and then at least two weeks in the hotel until we close on the house.

To this point, I only have used the bars over the few days of my Dad's wake and funeral. That is it. I do not use those products at all.

So my question is, to get through those few really rough travel days and after, what is the better choice, the bars or the shakes? I would not use them at all, but they will have to be at least a "little better" than some of the other options. I have no desire to eat off plan, but I am really scared about the lack of opportunity I will be facing to eat the foods I want.
I will get through it some how.

But back to the question. Bars, shakes, or both as a temporary aid?

    Thanks everyone!

I've used both occasionally in a similar situation (I was staying in a hotel for three months!). I haven't had a problem with the shakes; the bars tend to stall me. Of course that's entirely anecdotal and your mileage may vary.

The shakes have to be cold, the bars don't.

If you can keep the shakes cold, then they're fine.

I don't think you would be able to take them on the plane, but you should be able to take the bars on.

As far as flying, you can buy something at the airport after you've gone through security. My "go to" meal when traveling to California is the Southwest Salad from Chili's to Go. It's pretty wholesome (even with the black beans and corn) and I don't really need salad dressing on it.

You should be able to manage eating out (esp. in CA!) while you're living at the hotel. If nothing else, you can always have breakfast!

I think the thing to do is to not lose sight of the big picture ... that this is not your normal eating situation. Make good choices (stay out of the ice cream!) and do your best.

personally i would think it be better to eat nothing than to eat the atkin shakes and bars

last i checked they both have soy in them. and soy is a protein inhibitor and thyriod inhibitor and toxic and such. you won't beable to absorb protein as good so whats the point of eating that?

they can cause cravings for some people too so its not like a meal replacement that will hold you over or anything

also will you have time too eat legal food in the morning and at night and just not during the middle of the day when your busy?

I wholeheartedly second this! I love the Chili's to Go Southwest Salad. It's very filling. I usually split it or keep the second half for later.

Thanks everyone. This is going to be a challenge.

Like I said earlier, I am not worried about eating the wrong foods, do not want them anymore, just worried about be able to eat the right foods at the right time.

Thanks for all of your help. I will have to take it one day at a time.

How about moving up to the nut rung. They are healthy and wholesome and sugar free snacks that go a long way.

Missing you Mary. Hope you have a good move.

                    Re: Atkins Bars or Shakes

I second Liv's suggestion of being able to use nuts as a portable snack. I buy unsalted, unroasted almonds and sort them into one-ounce packs as soon as I get the big bag home, so I can have a measured amount available. I cannot manage to control portions of roasted salted nuts of any kind so don't buy them.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
