  • Going to the Faire, cheer me on, k?

We are leaving in an hour and a half to go to the Renaissance Pleasure Faire. I have a list of the food there, and man, it's ALL carbs. They don't allow ANY food or drink into the faire, so I can't even take water and a few string cheese in, and everything is so expensive.

My plan is to hopefully eat somewhere before we go in. It's a far drive and we can't leave too early or we will be stuck in traffic, but we can't leave too late or we won't get there on time (it's a field trip). If we end up having to eat there, I'm sure I'll probably eat the toppings off a slice of pizza, or a bunless cheeseburger and have some kind of drink--hopefully they sell water there since they won't even allow us to bring that in.

I'm feeling pretty confident in myself to handle the day's eating properly, but if y'all could give me a little encouraging "push off" and any advice that comes to mind, I know I'll remember all of your advice while I'm out there amongst all that not-good-for-me food and drink. Plus, if I have to come back and report to you how I did, I know I'll be much more mindful of my choices.

    TIA friends!

I thought they had turkey legs there?

This would be a good time to have an Atkins bar in the bottom of your purse.

    I can't believe they don't sell water.

    Have fun!!!

Have fun at the Faire. I go to my local Ren Fest yearly. I find there are some things Atkins friendly---turkey legs, roast beef/grilled chicken sandwiches (toss the bun), chicken on a stake, steak on a stake, salads (yep, they had a vegetarian stall the last couple of years that had a nice array of salads), etc. For beverages, I ask the ice tea guy for unsweetened ice tea and there's always water.

      Are you donning a costume?

Atkinsgal--they do sell water, they just don't let you bring your own in. What a rip huh?

Not2late: Nope, no costume. I would if my family would, but I would stick out like a sore thumb for sure, LOL!

Thanks for the suggestions! You two are right--the turkey legs, but alas, I don't care much for turkey....however, I have the menu right here in front of me and am writing notes on it so I know what direction to go if we do end up eating there.

        You guys are the bomb!

I'm too timid to go in costume.

Yeah--me too, alone anyway. And on this day, the school day, not many are in costume anyway. It's a pretty mellow day, compared to what I've heard goes on at the faire, because there are lots of kids. It's neat tho!

I'm not much for costumes either! (Or maybe I am!) Click on the thumbnail to enlarge.

If there isn't some "rip it, tear it, eat it with your bare hands, wipe hands on sleeves or pants" food there it can't be much of a rennaisance faire. A good roasted chicken leg quarter would be an excellant addition to the faire fair!

Hi, Personally, bunless cheeseburgers have saved my "hiny" many times. Doubles if necessary. Actually, I also save the opportunity to eat them for just such special and scary occasions! Have a blast! (Um..then there is always the "padded" bra technique)

Put your water and string cheese in a bag, and 3-8 prescription bottles. If they search you, and they won't let you in, tell them you are diabetic, you don't get out very often, and you really want to enjoy the fair without having to have them call an ambulance. Then keep looking them in the eye until the silence becomes uncomfortable, and they will let you pass.

                              ROFL!

Well apparently, I could have brought food in because there were plenty of kids walking around with backpacks full of lunch and drinks. I dunno why the rule sheet was so adamant.

So this is what happened. We drove out there, and dh decided that we would eat at McD's instead of inside the fair--fine with me, I could just eat the Angus thing without a bun and seasoning like I learned here from some others. No dice---it was breakfast still. Bleh. Ok new plan. I ordered the breakfast with Atkinsgal's favorite eggs *pokes fun at Atkinsgal*, a sausage, a roll and a hash brown. Gave my roll and hashbrowns away and ate the [fake] eggs and sausage. The eggs were......something to eat, but the sausage was good--it worked out ok for me in the pinch I was in. On the way home, the fam wanted to pick up some food, so I decided to bow out and eat a salad and some leftover chicken from last night. Cheaper, I'm using leftovers and staying within my diet. I just didn't feel like eating fast food twice, since I haven't been eating it at all. I guess I've lost my taste for it. But again, in a pinch, I will eat it.

So now I'm off to go count my carbs for the day. Probably not many at all, but I'm looking forward to eating a nice healthy fresh salad and some yummy chicken with the low carb bbq sauce I made up last night. Yummm!

Thanks for all the comments and encouragement!
