Page numbers for fiber information?

  • Page numbers for fiber information?

    I'm wondering if anyone can refer me to the pages that talk about how we need to make sure that at least half of our fiber comes from veggies? I am drawing a blank on this, so I don't even know if my above statement is right. Help?

    Chapter 8, first page says,

    During Induction, your primary source of fiber will be vegetables.

      It is at least half of our carbs are to come from veggies. Remember we are counting net carbs which are total carbs minus fiber = net carbs. Does that make it any clearer, I hope?

        Thanks girls.

        Ok yes, that makes it clearer, so if I have planned so far 27 carbs, but 9 of those net carbs are from veggies, then I'm doing it wrong, right? I dunno why I'm so confused today. Probably because I'm off my regular schedule.

            Ok here is a complete food log from yesterday. Perhaps you all can look at it for me and help me know if I'm doing this right.

              Assuming that is 27 net carbs, with 9 net carbs from veggies, then, yes, that is wrong.

              You want half of your NET carbs coming from veggies

                Ok, I was too high yesterday on carbs and likely on protein. It was an unusual day, but I still think I'm messing up here.

                I had 27 NET carbs yesterday, but 15 of those net carbs came from veggies--is that right then? I mean, I know I need to bring the carbs down, but am I counting this right?

                ETA: Alright, I think I know what I'm doing now. I wonder if my lack of ability to figure this out today was because my food schedule is off?? I'm ok now.

                  Yes that looks fine (assuming you were eating 10 net carbs from your veggies on induction).

                  How many net carbs were you averaging over induction? If you know that it is quite simple to work out your rung one 'goal' for net carbs.

                  For OWL you are aiming to add 5 net carbs from your extra vegetables to the 3 cups you were eating on induction, so just adding 5 net carbs to your net carb totals including other non-veg carbs.

                  So if you were eating say 15 net carbs in all on induction you should be aiming for 20 net carbs for your first OWL rung 1 week. If you were eating 20 net carbs on induction (most of which were from your veggies) then you now should be aiming at 25 net carbs.

                  If however you were one of the people who were eating mainly lettuce on induction for your 3 cups of veg then you would probably only have been getting about 4-5 net carbs from them so your OWL 1 net carbs from veg if you continued to have 3 cups of lettuce and added 5 net carbs from brocolli would be only about 10 net carbs, meanng your total net carbs on your first week of OWL rung one should only be something like 12-15.

                    Hi ElizEllen, and thanks.

                    Over the two weeks of induction, my average of net carbs was 17. I ate a variety of veggies, not just lettuce, but didn't get the hang of the half net carbs from veggies thing until about 3/4 of the way through. By the last 3 days, my net carbs from veggies numbers were 14, 14 and 11. My carb counts for those days were

                    April 19 - 38 carbs, 16 fiber (14 veggie net carbs)
                    April 20 - 35 carbs, 14 fiber (14 veggie net carbs)
                    April 21 - 36 carbs, 11 fiber (11 veggie net carbs)

                    My carb numbers were not always that high, I think I was so concentrated on getting half of those net carbs from veggies that I didn't stay within my limits the way I should have. I lost 1lb per day consistently, but now I'm hoping I didn't make a mess of things.

                    When I average the whole two weeks, even with the above numbers my net carbs come out to only 17. I think that's because in the beginning, I was only counting carbs, not net carbs so I was much lower in net carbs that I should have been.

                    I'm not sure how to straighten this out, and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to get those net carbs from veggies without going over in my overall daily net carbs.

                    Help?

                      Is that vegetable net carbs or total carbs?

                      I would get rid of the diet soda. Your 20 ounces is your 3 servings of sweetener limit. Plus there's the ranch dressing, the pepperoni, the italian sausage, and the BBQ sauce. Way too much sweetener in one day.

                        I know--it was a really weird day for me. I don't even usually drink the diet soda, but that day I chose to.

                        Yes, the 15 net carbs was from veggies, so I was WAY too high in carbs in the first place (probably my sweetener/sugar escapade), which ended up with my net carbs being too high.

                              Well wait. I guess I can't say that I drank it KNOWING it was over the limit. I'm guilty of drinking it KNOWING that it's not something I like to have in my diet regularly. I guess I figured since I hadn't been having it, it was fine that day. I made the choice on all the other stuff with sweeteners without even thinking about the soda, and that's my bad. I have been somehow stuck in my mind on balancing my fiber/veggie net carbs that I blew it elsewhere.

                              I can't wait to get to a place where it's just automatic, ya know?
