  • Soybeans and net carbs

I picked up some Publix GreenWise Market Organic Soy Beans - USDA Organic. They are green in color.

    Nutrition Facts:
    Serving size 1/2 cup
    Calories: 160

    Total fat: 7g

    Total Carbs: 13g
    Dietary fiber: 12g
    Sugars: 2g

    Protien: 13 g

Country of origin stamped on bottom: USA

By the numbers it has 1 gram net carbs. I thought only black soy beans had 1 net carb per serving and green soy beans had 5-7 net carbs per serving. I can't find my Atkins carb counter book. Any thoughts or something i'm missing?

    Thanks.

    They're not allowed on Induction.

Are they fresh, canned, just the beans?

Canned. The ingredient list is: organic soy beans, water, sea salt.

I was planning ahead for when i can have chili again by finding a low carb bean. The net carbs seem to low though.

        I agree.

Maybe by the time you get to the legume rung of OWL, a more true carb count will have surface!

I was hoping soy beans was good since I have fields and fields of it growing next to my house. A few thousand lbs of soybeans still on the plants and i can not use any of it. After they cut the beans, they plant rice, then back to beans. Rice is a big no but always thought soy beans was ok

Many people think soy is evil just like there are people that think fats will kill you have plenty of their own articles to back it up. Do your own research, there are thousands that eat soy and live long healthy lives.

I agree the count seems low.

Soybeans come under the legume rung of OWL.

Whether or not you choose to eat them is up to you.

soo far the only healthy people who also ate soy was from eating the 100% properly fermented kinds of soy and in small amounts and i believe only japan did this

but if you must eat it then heres some info on how to eat ok soy

Soy Bad, Soy Good: The Pluses of Fermented Soy 8/4/04

note where it says about Vitamin K2 soy K2 does nothing for osteoporosis it has to be animal source K2 (4K9 or something) for it to work on osteoporosis

heres one of dr mercolas comments on that link

Fermented soy, which includes natto, miso and tempeh, is a healthy food and should be consumed by the masses. However, soy formula is an abomination that has caused much damage to the children of this country and should be immediately banned for sale in every country.

natto, miso, and tempeh are ok but you need to know that in western society they rush the fermention process and do not make it properly so it can still be unsafe to eat you basically have to go to japan and have them 100% ferment it properly

                  and this is from wiki
Raw soybeans, including edamame, should not be eaten by humans, swine, chickens, in fact, all monogastric animals.

in short veiw soy as something like pork meat that always starts out 100% infected with e coli. now if you don't prepair it properly your gonna get sick as a dog and even die. but if you prepair it properly and 100% properly to get rid of all that ''e coli'' then it may have some benefit

so soy is not something you want to mess around with it is a highly toxic plant that you need to know exactly what you are doing with before eating it and i would not trust western society with preparing something like that for me to eat. and western society has already proven that they are unable to handle this toxic plant by still selling it to people to be ate in its toxic form

Ziggy I know you have a problem with soy, you bring it up every chance you get. But others are adults and free to make up their own mind without scare tactics thrown out constantly. I know you think everyone that eats soy will just fall over dead but that's simply not true many people outside of Japan are healthy and eat the "evil" soy products.

Pooh, ziggy has a point. There is overwhelming evidence that soy, AS AMERICANS EAT IT, is not healthy. Comparing Japanese soy is incorrect, as the fermenting process changes the chemistry of it and therefore the affect on the body is different.

That said, sometimes i eat soy. I put silky tofu in my shakes and when I'm on the bean rung I'll definitely be making some miso soup (that contains the healthy soy btw)

Soy is not good for people with thyroid disease, or Hashimoto's. It interferes with the medication.

Soy in large quantities, acts as an endocrine disrupter. That means it interacts with sex hormones. For menopausal women, that can be helpful. For adolescents, it can be a problem.
Since the advent of soy formula for babies, pediatricians have seen a large increase in endocrine disorders.
I would be wary. Most "vegetable oil" is soy oil. I avoid it.
