Does anyone want to help me get rid of some chocolate temptation that I ordered a couple of days ago on amazon? they were having a chocolate sale and I could not resist ordering all kinds of sugar free chocolate... koppers sugar free chocolate covered hazelnuts and YC orange bits belgium sugar free chocolates. However, I learned that I can NOT have them in the house! I don't want to throw it out since it's really expensive chocolate. If anyone wants to grab some at a great price, PM me.

Re: For those of you who can handle sugar free chocolate...
I wish I could help you.
Unfortunately, I fell off the wagon today with some real chocolate. Not a lot, but we are doing state tests, and they always have a carb festival in the morning on this day, when 3 grades are testing for 5 hours. I avoided the bagels, the bear claws, the bags of chips and the granola bars, as well as the Knotts Berry cookies.
Then my test buddy came back from bringing them the attendance list, and silently motioned for me to hold out my hand.
Into my palm dropped 8 perfect M&Ms, all pink and blue and yellow, and I ate them all. (Ronald Coleman voice: I DID IT, AND I'M GLAD!)
So, no candy for me.

Re: For those of you who can handle sugar free chocolate...
I was looking at some sugar-free chocolate chips sweetened with maltitol on a website and fantasizing about the possibilities. I then decided to read the comments. There were a lot of comments raving about this wonderful, low-carb alternative and every single review was 5 stars until the very last one. It was one star and said something like, "I can't believe they sell this as low-carb because maltitol is anything but."Originally posted by lannerjarv View Postmaltitol is the devil.
that is all.
I Googled and sure enough...
So much for my chocolate chip fantasies.
Oh, and it definitely does a number on my digestive track.

why is this? do most people digest malitol like regular carbs?Originally posted by LageNomAi View Post"I can't believe they sell this as low-carb because maltitol is anything but."
atkinsgal08-- great idea, but i need it out of the house. now hearing how malitol= evil, maybe I should just throw it away. maybe i can return it.

Re: For those of you who can handle sugar free chocolate...
According to Dr. Google, it has a pretty high glycemic index (50+) as compared with other artificial sweeteners. Plus, apparently it's not as sweet as sugar, so you need a larger amount of it to get the desired sweetness, meaning that your carb count ends up being pretty high.Originally posted by sparklez View Postwhy is this? do most people digest malitol like regular carbs?
Now there are different types of maltitol and depending upon the type, the GI can be as low as 36, but that's still higher than other artificial sweeteners.

Re: For those of you who can handle sugar free chocolate...
You can make your own chocolates with coconut oil, unsweetened 100% cocoa powder and a little sweetener (Splenda, xylitol, erythritol, stevia, etc.). Tastes more like dark chocolate probably because it doesn't have a ton of malitol like commercial versions. Make reese cup types with PB or almond butter. Add some almonds for almond bark. A little orange zest is tasty.
Anyways, homemade is still best. Healthier...and much cheaper.
p.s. These are OWL occasional treats.

Also if you add a little heavy cream it becomes rich milk chocolate, a little vanilla extract adds a nice flavorful touch...if you'v gotten 2 the nut rung, some almond pieces make it into a nice almond bark.Originally posted by mizski View PostYou can make your own chocolates with coconut oil, unsweetened 100% cocoa powder and a little sweetener (Splenda, xylitol, erythritol, stevia, etc.). I can only WRITE about this because if i actually THINK about this i may consider having some and chocolate is the main thing that triggers cravings 4 me and this is the so destructive
4 all the efforts that i've made. It may be fine and legal, but i believe one of the most important benefits of this WOE is learning to identify what foods you can handle and not, and removing them, consistently, as needed. so if you can handle it, have some 4 me, if you have a chocoalte addiction move these ideas out of your brain, now, and be determined and creative in finding alternatives.

Re: For those of you who can handle sugar free chocolate...
Great advice! I'm one of the few that isn't thrilled by chocolate or sweets; for many others they are a problem. I made some chocolates for Easter...most of it is still in the freezer.Originally posted by soon2bslim View PostIt may be fine and legal, but i believe one of the most important benefits of this WOE is learning to identify what foods you can handle and not, and removing them, consistently, as needed. so if you can handle it, have some 4 me, if you have a chocoalte addiction move these ideas out of your brain, now, and be determined and creative in finding alternatives.
Thanks for the cream suggestion!

Re: For those of you who can handle sugar free chocolate...
i steer clear of any chocolate besides cocoa powder, and even then maybe have a tbsp every 3 weeks or so in something.
sweets are a weakness for me, so i try not to encourage that beast to re-emerge. lolF 28years 5'7" HW 212/SW206.6/CW185/GW160

Re: For those of you who can handle sugar free chocolate...
I'm with Mizski on the "make your own" bandwagon. The coconut oil bark is something I just made for the first time a few days ago. And maybe it's that I'm just not that into sweets anymore, or maybe that the coconut oil makes it SO rich...but I can only eat a very little piece at a time (think about a centimeter square). I can see how it could be dangerous, though!I will ONLY weigh once per week! I will refer to DANDR 2002 and this forum when I have questions. I will revel in new recipes, new clothes, and the new feeling of being happy in my skin. I will hold myself accountable to do this the right way, without excuses, because I know that Atkins is the best thing for my health and happiness. I. Will. Succeed!
