  • Question about veggies...cups vs. oz.

    It is soooo easy to overpack lettuce into 3 cups. I don't want to overdo it on the veggie carbs, so I started weighing my lettuce. Does anyone know approximately how many oz. of lettuce = 3 cups? This info. would sure help!

    Also, I told ya all I wouldn't drink Crystal Light any more, but I drank one serving on Wed. and one on Thurs....AAAhhhhhh I hate plain water! Don't get me wrong, I am drinking between 12-14 cups of water a day! I just like having something with flavor to drink during meals. It makes my meals more satisfying. Is it really all that bad? Is it worse than SF jello (which I thought we could have)? Both have similar ingredients. Hmmmmm....

    The answer to your questions about crystal light vs pure water - check the ingredients of the crystal light - they are mostly chemicals and which sweetner is used in what you are using? Aspartame isn't recommended and most of the powdered comes with that sweetner.

    Iceberg lettuce has so few nutrients I hope you're using something like romaine or spinach as your "lettuce". What I find the easiest way to deal with greens is a handful is about a cup - that's how I guage what I'm eating.

      You can use the USDA site to check what 3 cups of lettuce would weigh.



      Of course, you might not pack your cup the same way they did their cup. Weighing is more accurate than "cup".

      And I hope you're not relying on 3 cups of lettuce for your vegetables! You need more variety and more nutrient dense vegetables from the lists.

        Here is a link to a wonderful spreadsheet that is located in the FAQ forum on this board: Carb Counts I have printed it, and use it all of the time. It gives the weight for cups of many foods. It also lists the nutrition facts, and rung for each food. I use an inexpensive food scale from Walmart and weigh all of my veggies/nuts/fruit. Most of the weights on the spreadsheet are given in grams, but my scale has both grams and ounces on it.

        I don't eat SF jello because it contains aspertame. It's not good for you, and is a known staller for many. I think that Crystal Light mix has aspartame, doesn't it? I think I have seen the ready-made bottles with Splenda, but am not sure about that. It is one of those YMMV things (your mileage may vary). Some people can have it, some people can't. If you do, you are to include them in your 3 sweetener per day limit, and still get in your plain water as well.

          If you like flavored water with your meals, how about a refreshing slice of lemon? You could even add a little splenda.

            i have been weighing out all my veg recently as found out that the 3 cup rule was not enough vegies so hoping this with stop me stalling

              Thanks all for the info. and advice. I am REALLY trying to cut out the Crystal light! I will try lemon! I am eating Romain lettuce and other veggies as well. I have 2 days left of induction! Yeah! I am looking forward to some nuts and berries! Thanks again!!!
