I have been chewing 3-4 sticks of sugarless gum a day to ward off that "I am not hungry...I just wanna eat" feeling. Does anyone know if chewing sugarless gum is okay on the Atkins diet???
I don't think so if it is sweetened with aspartame--and I am not sure there is any sweetened with splenda out there. Aspartame has been known to stall weight loss, and it doesn't do much for eliminating your cravings. Better to stay away from it. Sorry.
I would minimally look for a xylitol gum instead of the aspartame, but I'd say to still chew half of a stick instead of a full stick. You really only want something in your mouth, and half of a piece works as well as a full one. Extra gum is not carb free, and you still want to stick to sweetener allowances, counting each stick as an appreciable serving of sweetener.
