  • Vitamin Water Zero - 0 Calories but 6 gms of Carbs per Serving?

Yesterday, I stopped at a convenience store to buy something to drink. I was lured by a “Vitamin Water” label that proclaimed that the drink had “Zero Calories.” So, I bought it and drank it down.

Then, after I finished I checked the label. It indeed said that it was zero calories, but also said that it had 6 grams of carbs per service. Unfortunately, there was 2.5 servings in the 16 ounce bottle I gulped down – or 15 grams of carbs in a couple of gulps.

How can this be? I thought that all carbs have calories (I read elsewhere that there were 3.7 calories per carb gram). If Vitamin Water does indeed have 6 grams of carbs per serving, doesn’t it contain calories by definition?

Fructose? Well that is sugar in any book that I know.

Not sure why it can claim zero calories. Anything under 5 calories that legally be posted as zero but that does not explain away the 6 carbs

      Adding:
I looked up some pages and it seems it may also contain a sugar alcohol - if that is the case that would explain the label.

But with all those sweeteners and with sugars I say stay far away from it. Drink water

Thanks. Vitamin Water Zero may be healthier than their regular "Vitamin Water," but I don't trust their labelling any longer.

Next time, I'll just stick to water.

For others, beware of Vitamin Water Zero -- read the full nutritional label rather than relying on the "Zero Calories" on the front of the bottle.

I keep some packets of stevia or sweet-n-low with me now. If I want something sweet, I just get water, put a packet in, and voila! instant sweetened drink.
