  • Brainstorm with me for my weekend trip?

    Hi all,

I'm going out of town for Mother's Day weekend to go see dh's mom, grandma and my mom. This is probably a super easy situation, since we will mostly be eating at dh's grandma's house, and they pretty much eat "real" food. My concern is that there won't be enough veggies for me to meet my veggie net carbs, not to mention healthy-for-me snacks around. Plus, they use coffee creamer in their coffee. I can bring my liquid sucralose, so no biggie there, and I'm thinking some heavy cream. (Can I freeze heavy cream for travel?)

I know I will have somewhat of a cheat on Sunday because Sky, my little baker girl, is really looking forward to baking a cake for me and her two grandmas. Her plan is to make a fondant cake. I won't eat the fondant--I hate the stuff anyway--but I don't want to turn down her cake. She's a pretty masterful baker/cake decorator for an 11yo, and it's something I really encourage her in. I'll pay for it, I'm sure, but a small piece is worth her self-esteem to me. I have a feeling I won't enjoy it though. I'm not a big cake fan anyway.

Anyway, with the cake coming up on Sunday, I want to make sure that I'm as on-plan as I can be while I'm away. I've got a few ideas: bring my own cut up veggies and salad, bring my own heavy cream/liquid sucralose....but that's all I've got. I'm not sure that I want to spread it around that I'm "on a diet", but I also don't want to eat like he|| for 2 days, kwim? I'm not sure I want to bring along artichokes and broccoli to cook, LOL.

Help? Ideas on what to bring/pack are welcome!

How about you offer to help make some food, and make a nice salad or some veggies? Instead of transporting your heavy cream, can you swing by the grocery store when you get into town before you head to their house?

And I can see how you are torn between not wanting to go off plan and not wanting to disappoint your daughter at the same time. That's definitely a tough one, I hope it doesn't throw you off too much.

      Hmm
Is it possible for you to drop into a store on the way there to bring a few items in. I do that when I visit in laws because I like to eat a few things they do not (flax muffins, almond milk etc) If you do not want to announce Atkins maybe you can say that you really feel like vegetables are making you feel more comfortable these days and you thought you would contribute with a few items since you know you will munch on them a lot. (maybe not artichokes and broccoli - maybe pickles, olives, avocado, peppers? )

Hope you have a good time for mother's day

Thanks girls! Actually, it's only an hour away, so I can probably bring my heavy cream with an ice pack. Not sure why I didn't think of that.

Yep--I will definitely bring some veggies and share them, I'm sure it will be appreciated. I hadn't thought of that. All I could think of was me bringing "my food" and eating it, while rejecting theirs. Doesn't sound fun, kwim?

Yeah, I hope the cake doesn't throw me off much either, but we'll see. I know I'll be eating this way for life anyway, so I'd much rather make my daughter feel good than worry about a fraction of a lb from a small piece of cake.

        Thanks!

If you don't get enough vegetables for a few days, your head won't explode.

ROFL! Thanks for saying that, Atkinsgal.

Honestly, I think I've been a little concerned that the scale hasn't moved off 158-159 since 4/21. I should just measure myself and be done with it. I'm not super worried, but I think I'm concerned enough that I'm feeling there is some sort of dilemma here.

Perhaps I'll just relax and just bring what I know they won't have a good substitute for.

Since In addition to atkins I also gluten free, I schelp my own food everywhere. I like the single serve pouches of tuna and individual packets of mustard and mayo. Add baggies a of cut up veggies and I have a salad. They travel well. Have fun!
