  • low cal diet to atkins

So i was on a low calorie diet before and went on atkins to lose last 8 lbs (hit a plateau). turns out i did it wrong, ate mayo with sugar, one pack of gum a day etc. gained 3lbs of fat and 7 of water!!! in a week. so quit. now i started again but want to make sure i do it right this time. i got sugarfree mayo, ck, sugarfree spices, lots of meat and drink 3liters of water a day. today i ate 2 cups of lettuce, two ck breasts, cheddar cheese, mayo, little onion and jalepenos.... so im guessing 9 carbs? am i right or wrong. also I should start period tomorrow so dont know if I should take that into accoutn. oh and I workout 2 hrs a day w/muscle building.

Mars6, you may want to try fitday.com to track your food so you can see exactly how many carbs you are eating.

Yes, definitely take your period into account, it seems that most women gain water weight around then.

Kristi is right, you should be tracking everything you put into your body and the correct amounts...how much cheese? 2 cups of lettuce has almost no nutrient value so maybe try a mixed green package or spinach next time. Also, make sure you count your spices in your daily carb totals.

Have you read the book so you are sure how to follow the plan correctly? Do you have a copy of the acceptable food list? Unitl you can get ahold of a copy of the book you can get started with the plan here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...tion-faqs.html

      Good luck.

Are you looking at Atkins as a way of eating for life or only as a way to lose the last 8 lbs?

          ate mayo with sugar
Many people do and they lose weight. The amount of added sugar in full fat mayo is typically very small.

          im guessing 9 carbs?
You should be counting net carbs, which are total carbs minus dietary fiber... and over half of your daily net carbs should come from vegetables. I doubt that's the case now.

And I don't consider 2 cups of lettuce, and a bit of jalapeno and onion good nutrition. The closer you are to 20 net carbs, the more likely you are to get good nutrition. If your lettuce is iceberg, you're pretty much wasting your time with it; it's not very nutritious.

Also, Atkins is a high fat diet. Your fat intake should be something like 60-70% during Induction. To me, your menu looks high in protein.

I'm not sure you're eating enough food. Atkins isn't about severely restricting your calories.

The oil will not affect your weight loss. If you are worried about omega-6 or soy, then find a different brand or make your own.

          redline energy drink no carbs/sugar
You need to count each serving as a serving of sweetener. Sweeteners are limited to 3 servings per day.

Some people are slowed down by caffeine, but there's no way to know how it affects you unless you are willing to give it up, at least for a while. Not everyone gives up caffeine though.

Are you reading the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution?

That's not what Atkins is intended to be... some sort of diet you follow only to lose 10 lbs and then stop.

What diet do you want to follow after you lose these 8 lbs?

                And why not follow Atkins?

Re: low cal diet to atkins

well I wont follow a 'diet' after I get goal weight. itll just be healthy eating. like calories at bmr, etc. Have a LOT of water weight I want to get rid of in the process also. Cannot do atkins bc its too expensive and not enough variety.

Do you think Atkins is a "diet"... in the "I am dieting" sense of the word?

If you do, then you are incorrect. You should read the book if you want to understand the correct way to follow Atkins.

itll just be healthy eating. like calories at bmr, etc.
By eating at your BMR, you will lose weight below your goal. The BMR does not take into account activity level.

Cannot do atkins bc its too expensive

i know for many its a lifestyle/eating habit change. i dont know the correct term for just eating calories and using them daily... i used to eat about 1500 calories a day and maintain weight which is what i want to do again just plateaud, and got frustrated. I love to eat fruits, chocolates, milk, bread and i know those arent allowed as liberally as calorie counting diet. another thing i should mention is im trying to get back into shape for boot camp so i dont know if theyll let me follow my own diet
