From what I understand, you use the mini-pyramids to cobble together a daily menu.
I plugged my stats into that pyramid calculator. It told me that I should be eating the following daily
6 ounces whole grains
2.5 cups veggies
2 cups fruit
3 cups milk (dairy)
5.5 ounces of meat/legumes
I haven't reached the grains rung yet, but I certainly eat more than 2.5 cups of vegetables daily---everyone on Atkins are eating more than that!
On OWL you eat between 4-6 cups of veggies daily, depending on the veggies you choose to eat.
The dairy servings...again, we eat that amount during Atkins.
Fruit, I don't eat that amount, but I think the amount of vegetables I eat makes up for it.
Mine said I need 2200 calories a day .. I thought the ratios were pretty good that the calculator came up with, although I disagree with the low-fat recommendations on dairy. :nono I certainly get more than my share of the non-starchy veggies in a week! (veggies on Atkins?? :yikes) And I eat the amount recommended of whole grains and fruits.

All in all, I'd say this is pretty good.

I know! Imagine that! According to the new food guidelines, folks on ATKINS are eating the recommended amount of......vegetables! (I think I'm gonna faint!) lol.
Definitely by the time an Atkineer gets to pre-maintenance and maintenance, they will be eating along the same lines as this new pyramid.
Just goes to prove Dr. Atkins was right all along and it took over 30 years for everyone else to catch up.
