  • ughh starting again!

I dont know how many times I am gonna start but i am not giving up. I am here for support. Starting Monday and i plan to do induction right! So i plan to come here a lot.

    I am 5ft
    118-120
    Goal 110

    Any tips please?
Here are some questions as I don't want to mess up.
Is hot sauce ok? Specifically tapapito?
How much bacon can I have in one day and can I have it everyday?
Is one type of meat better than another? I want steak each day.
Can I have salmon each day or is that too much fish?

What do you eat for snack?
If i have salad can I have dressing more than one time a day?
Mushrooms really ok I thought they were high in carbs and not on induction but i keep seeing it.
Sugar free hello ok? Or got a better idea if I am having a sweet tooth break down?
Sorry for so many questions. Thanks in advance for those that answer. I want to eat as clean and close to the rules as possible.

    Why do you keep stopping?

    118-120
    Goal 110
With 8-10 lbs to lose, there's no reason for you to do Induction. You can start in OWL, so that you have time to move through the OWL rungs while you still have weight to lose.

The last 5-10 lbs are supposed to be lost in Pre-Maintenance.

Is hot sauce ok? Specifically tapapito?
Did you read the ingredients on the bottle of Tapatio hot sauce?

How much bacon can I have in one day and can I have it everyday?
There's no limit on bacon. Many brands are cured with sugar and nitrates/nitrites though.

If you're worried about weight loss, you need to see how bacon affects you. It's an individual thing.

Is one type of meat better than another? I want steak each day.
    Then eat steak.

Can I have salmon each day
    Yes.

What do you eat for snack?
Anything on the Acceptable Foods List, during Induction.

Anything acceptable on the rung I was on, during OWL.

Anything Atkins friendly (no sugar, trans fats, etc.) now that I'm in Pre-Maintenance.

If i have salad can I have dressing more than one time a day?
Why do you think having salad dressing more than one time a day would not be okay?

Mushrooms really ok I thought they were high in carbs and not on induction
Are you reading Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002)?

Mushrooms are acceptable on Induction. You can find them on the list in the book, Chapter 11.

For accurate carb counts, the USDA database is a good resource:

    Sugar free hello ok?
If by "jello" you mean Jell-O, it contains aspartame which Dr. Atkins told us to avoid.

You can have gelatin desserts. You can make your own and use Splenda or some other approved sweetener.

Or got a better idea if I am having a sweet tooth break down?
Best not to give in to your sweet tooth, imo. Not if you want to stop/control your addiction to sweets, at least.

You can have desserts on Atkins. But I believe it's better to have planned desserts every once in a while, not eat something sweet just because your sweet tooth yells for sugar.

      Re: ughh starting again!

I find it best when I have the resolve to start a diet that NOW is the right time rather than put it off. But that's just me...

Do you have a copy of the book? Also I would recommend reading the threads in the Induction section of ADBB.

I would read the label on the hot sauce. I eat it with no problem, but if you find that your weight loss stalls consider not using it.

There's no limit on meats, but processed meats with nitrates like bacon and lunchmeat are a bit dangerous due to the sodium and chemicals. I used to eat a lot of bacon, but anymore I prefer natural meats and fish. Eat all the grilled salmon you want, same for beef, pork, chicken, whatever... it's the extra sodium and chemicals that may give you problems.

Salads are wonderful, 2 cups salad ingredients and 1 cup of other veggies per day. Spread out your veggies like have some green pepper and tomato with the eggs in the morning. Mushrooms too. Get the book and read the list of induction vegetables for a complete list. Check the label on your dressing or make your own carb free dressing. Count every carb to make sure you stay under 20 a day on induction.

Sugar-free jello is ok, but limit your servings to 3 sweeteners a day. Part of induction is breaking our addiction to the sweet tooth, so you may find that it's best to wait on having desserts till after induction. Again, count the carbs. FitDay.com is good for this.

        Re: ughh starting again!

I don't stop I just fall off sometimes.
Is it bad for me to start with induction first?
I feel like I need to start from the beginning. And if I see results fast it will keep me motivated to keep going.
My weekends are my weakness. Going out to eat.
My family always wants to go and I can't get out of my head that I am paying so I need to eat.

Happy mothers day to all you moms by the way

LOL, let me rephrase this... do you know why you "fall off"?

Is it bad for me to start with induction first?
You might be reaching your goal weight before finding your CCLL... that's the main issue, imo.

In my experience, it's also more difficult to find your CCLL when you have little weight to lose.

In Atkins for Life, a book which focuses on Pre-Maintenance and Maintenance, Dr. Atkins recommends starting at a higher carb level if you have little weight to lose.

I feel like I need to start from the beginning.
My advice would be to at least start from OWL Rung 1. It's the same food as on Induction, with the additional 5 net carbs worth of Induction vegetables.

And if I see results fast it will keep me motivated to keep going.
I pretty much doubt you will see results fast, since you have so little weight to lose. The last pounds come off slow. You need to have patience.

It's good to think of this as a healthy/healthier and permanent change in your eating habits. Weight loss will come if you relax and just follow the plan.

My weekends are my weakness. Going out to eat.
My family always wants to go and I can't get out of my head that I am paying so I need to eat.
You can eat out on Atkins. Eat on plan, that's all.

What exactly do you find difficult when you eat out? Choosing an Atkins friendly meal? Feeling deprived for not eating what the rest of your family eats?

            Re: ughh starting again!

As far as eating out....both of your points! I know I need to think that eating a meal that makes me further from my goal is so not worth it but I keep not doing what I think.
I think I keep falling off because I like to eat too much.

I am determined. I plan to cut out coffee completely and try not to have Nething that has sugar or needs splendid

I am confused about meats. Do we eat lean or fatty meats? More specifically steaks. I love fatty steaks. But I have read some induction lists that say lean meat?
I read the book.but its been awhile and my friend has my copy.

Get your copy back or buy a new copy and resolve to not lend YOUR copy again.

You can eat lean or fatty meats. If you eat lean meat, there's other ways to get your fat.

I would do the 14 day induction with only whole foods (meats veggies eggs and cheese) no sauces.. no dressings.. no sugar substitutes.. If you absolutely have to have a sweet my advice is to try a couple of table spoons of sweet peas or a club soda that has "essence" of orange or lemon. Both of these do wonders for curbing my soda addiction. If you feel like you need a sauce.. use the oil you cooked your meat in or shred the cheese up really fine and spread it around.

I like to use olive oil and spice the heck out of my meat.. i cook the meat first then toss in the vegetables once the meat is done and let it cook a few minutes. This usually spreads the flavor around really well.

At 120 you only need to lose 10 pounds but because your so tiny already i think those 10 pounds are much harder. I can lose 10 pounds if i sleep in on saturday .

I dont know exactly what the science is behind these fake sweetners are but i can tell you that if i drink a diet soda my appetite doubles. I literally find myself standing in front of the fridge eating whatever i can get my hands on. And the very next day i usually end up buying candy or a soda. Same with sugar free gum. I thought i could chew it to keep myself from getting hungry but instead it made me hungry.. specifically for sweets. I am better off just drinking a regular soda because it doesn't increase my appetite.

This is advice based on what i have found works for me. I just started atkins again today. My weight loss came to a screeching halt when i stopped following the rules but i was able to keep what i did lose by increasing exercise and sticking as close as i could to the rules. The biggest change for me was just walking around outside. I literally never did this before. Now i get out for a couple hours a day. Its crazy to think that a few months ago i couldnt walk for more than a few minutes without my back and sides hurting and being out of breath. Now its effortless.

Probably not. What are the ingredients?
