  • I have 2 questions for the more experienced

So I'm getting back into my Atkins stride, and have gotten a bit rusty on the tips. I would appreciate your feedback on the following:

    1. Sausages for Breakfast.
Just about every brand out there has breadcrumbs and sugar added in it. For instance, Maple Leaf Golden Fry contains pork, water, toasted wheat crumbs, salt, sugar, spice and 8g carbs per 2 sausages. What brand do you all buy?

    2. Daily caloric intake + fat percentage.
I seem to hover about 2000 cal per day, 65% of it coming from fat.
Does this seem right? What amounts of cal and fat do you all eat?

    Thanks!

What kind of sausage are you referring to? Is it the ground pattie type? Jimmy Dean's doesn't give me trouble. Also, the calorie thing sounds about right for when I began. Now I have to stay around 1800.
    Good luck

Most groceries have packages of sausage they grind themselves. No fillers, just meat and spices. It's (IMO) tastier and cheaper.

I don't know if this is available where you are but I buy Jones sausage (their official name is Jones Dairy Farm). You have to look closely because they do make products with maple syrup/sugar. But they have links and patties without sugar that I have been eating for the past year with no problem (if they contain sugar, it is a small amount and isn't listed).

As for your calories and fat...my opinion is that if you are losing weight, don't worry about it. The amount of fat looks fine. Personally, my calories are lower but I am also on premaintenance. My fat % is usually about where yours is, my calories really vary and I don't pay much attention to it even. I can be anywhere from 1300-1800 depending on what I eat.

Jak...If you already ate sugar, there isn't much you can really do other than to just stay on track again. You can try drinking more water (that never hurts), especially if you have cravings. Personally, I don't use/trust ketosticks. If you inadvertantly ate a tiny bit of sugar, it doesn't mean you are going to gain weight. You just might not lose any for a day or so...that has been my experience in situations like that. So, drink your water, eat your whole foods and keep on going.

          Hello Whatsername,
How do you do Atkins on 1300 calories per day? Besides cutting the fat, I can't imagine how. May i ask for a sample menu of what you eat daily?

Re: I have 2 questions for the more experienced

Hello Designbabe. I frequently have days under 1300 calories.
Breakfast: one egg omelette made with 1 tbs cream, 2-3 slices bacon, spinach and mushrooms

lunch: tuna with 1-2 tbs mayo, red bell pepper, onion, spinach/romaine and cherry tomatoes

dinner: small chicken breast, asparagus, spaghetti squash, butter, and a sauce made with 2 tbs cream and mushrooms.

            I am seldom hungry.

Re: I have 2 questions for the more experienced

I don't try to keep my calories lower, that is just how it turns out sometimes. I do not worry about or cut back on fat. Sometimes I think I have too much fat in my diet.

I eat very simple meals...just how I am. Here is a sample day:

B~1 sausage patty, 2 eggs fried in butter, 1 cup coffee with splenda and 2T. cream.

L~2 cups of salad, 1/2 cup cucumber, 2T blue cheese dressing, 1 pork chop (4 oz with bone), cooked in a little olive oil.

D~4 oz roast chicken, 1/2 cup green beans, 1/4 cup sliced carrots, 1 oz mashed potatoes.

I had a 2nd cup of coffee with splenda and cream in the afternoon but other than that, just had water to drink. This was roughly 1240 cal.

I wouldn't say this is a typical day for me. I usually eat more meat, and don't eat things like carrots and potatoes very often even on premaintenance. For snacks, I will have celery, almonds, sf pickles, and cheese but somedays I just don't eat much for snacks. I looked at some of my old fitday entries (I have been bad about using fitday lately) and my calories were usually closer to 1600 and I had days this winter where it was 1800-2000. But days where it was 1300 too...so just a wide variety for me.

              Hope that helps.

look in the fresh meat section... near the lunch meat and stuff.. there's usually some local brand of fresh ground (like the jones dairy farm mentioned).. .and Jimmy Dean..

the pre-made patties... usually have more fillers and such.... and the frozen ones are off the grid..
