I have an ulcer and my gull (not sure if spelled right) bladder was removed about 2 years ago. Because of both these things I was advised not to eat foods that are high in fat and to avoid fried foods. I LOVE ATKINS. It’s what works for me, I’ve done it in the past and had success which is why I am back. I try to keep my foods as lean as possible and try to avoid frying but in some situations I find is close to impossible, and not only that but Atkins is supposed to be a high fat diet right? I know many of you are probably going to ask if I’ve read the book which I did many, many years ago when I did it the first time. But I guess what I want to know is if there is anyone out there with one or both of these conditions that can tell me how things are working.

Re: ulcer and gull bladder removed...
I had my gall bladder removed eight years ago and I was also wondering if it matters on this WOE. So far I have been fine with food but I am losing very slowly and wondered if it could be from that.Brandy

Re: ulcer and gull bladder removed...
I had my gall bladder removed 4 years ago while on Atkins. No problems at all on this high fat diet.
I am always suspicious that it is high fat that trigger attacks. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a combination of high fat, high carbs etc. But that's just my opinion. I think the triggers are different for different people. I know I had certain foods that triggered my attacks and it took me a while after having it removed before I could eat them. Fat content just didn't seem to be one of them for me, perhaps because I was eating low carb.
It might still be trial and error to see what foods or what kind of fats if you suspect them (ex. saturated versus mono) trigger symptoms. Keep a journal of foods might help identify problem foods.Start date: 2/22/04 347/222/135 ~ 5'2"

Re: ulcer and gull bladder removed...
I had my gallbladder removed 8 years ago and the only problem I have with the fat is that sometimes it gives me diarrhea. I have to be careful with cream, etc. Otherwise it hasn't really affected me. I also think I have a bit of a fatty liver...probably why they tell you not to eat much fat because once your GB is gone, your liver takes over some of its function.Start date 4/5/10

Re: ulcer and gull bladder removed...
I had my gallbladder removed some years ago and was really weary of the Atkins WOE because it meant eating a lot more of foods that I had identified as triggers to severe diarrhea. My doctor had told me I had to avoid most dietary fat, and sure enough it seemed fatty foods triggered bad episodes.
But it's been a month now on Atkins and I've not been sick once. I think there's a certain combination of caffeine and fat that makes things go wrong but the very high fat diet has not caused me any discomfort whatsoever.
I have had an ulcer in the past and sweet things like fruit made it worse, along with very spicy or acidic things. Certain raw vegetables like broccoli caused heartburn too but steamed they went down just fine. You'll have to experiment there. That said, high fiber helps heal the ulcer a lot faster in my experience.
I'm pretty sure your doctor would have mentioned this but cut down on caffeine as much as you can. It really helped me!
