  • New here and need some expert advice!

Hi all, this is my first post so be kind!
My (probably dumb) question is this:
If a food has listed 5 carbs, 0 sugar is it OK for induction phase?
    It is premade meatballs.
Thanks so much for your help.

Can't tell for sure. Does it list fiber? Are there other sources of carbohydrates listed, like starch, maltodextrin, high fructose corn syrup and other potential sources of sugars not identified as "sugar"?

Without a list of ingredients we cannot determine if the 5 carbs are readily accessible to your body or not.

However, 5 carbs are 5 carbs. Although Atkins would prefer you stick to vegetables low on the glycemic index, if you stay under 20 carbs, you should be ok, but again, more information is needed.

    Sorry for being vague.

      Sorry, here's more info.
      240 calories
      19 fat
      40 cholesterol
      640 sodium
      Total Carb 5
      Dietary Fiber 1
      Sugars 0
      Protein 14g

ingred are beef, water, soy protein, eggs, romano cheese, onion, and here's the problem I'm sure, corn syrup solids and bread crumbs (wheat flour, salt, yeast are the bread crumb ingred)

So I guess these are no good. I already ate them! So I guess that ruins my day of induction.

Your day isn't ruined. You made a bad choice, that's all. Now you know you have to read the list of ingredients BEFORE you eat something.

I would not say it ruined anything. You learned something valueable and I doubt 4 carbs of that stuff by itself would ruin anything

Keep going. Yes and always check list of ingredients before you buy stuff. I think it is the #1 thing I have learned on my journey.

I absolutely agree with Atkinsgal08, if you were talking about a 16 oz piece of "sugar free" chocolate cake that had 150 carbs and 2 sugars, you might have ruined your day.

As I said, the 5 carbs wasn't a terrible amount and if you kept within the alotted number of carbs for your day you will do fine.

As indicated by the list of ingredients, the nutritional "experts" who prepare those labels either by dishonest design or by ignorance, can tell us a lot about the quality of the foods we are eating.

I'll repeat, this for the sake of emphasizing the point. I believe you learned a valuable lesson, at a relatively low cost ... read the label. The whole label, not just the numbers.

Lastly, what you already put in your mouth is history and there is nothing you can do with history except learn from it. The past, no matter how bad it might have been, is past. The only bad choice you can make in the future is choosing to repeat the past.

Keep at it, you will get there!

I eat pre-made meatballs every once in a while. Don't make it a habit!
