Has anyone read the newest Atkins book "New Atkins for a New You: The Ultimate Diet for Shedding Weight and Feeling Great" that was published in March?

I see the 2002 version being recommended all over the boards and just wondered what the feedback was for the new one.

    Re: New book

This forum is built around the 2002 edition of DANDR. It was the last version written by Dr. Atkins. Based on comments by those who have read them, the newer versions appear to spend more time on the commercial aspects of the Atkins Program. (ie. commercial sales of developed products.)

While the newer versions can be read for informational purposes, they are not relied upon in this forum. This is neither an endorsement or a condemnation of the newer books (or older versions) just the book chosen by the site creators as the latest and greatest Atkins book published before his death.

Thanks, forbey. I knew the 2002 version was the official book of the board...but I figured some had read the others as well. Thanks for the feedback.

        Re: New book

I have the new book and it was responsible for bringing me back to Atkins, however, I am re-reading the original and following the advice of people on this site who are using the first book.

I read the new book and I like most of it.

I like that it specifies the net carbs from vegetables one should aim for during Induction. There are also some good tips in the OWL, Pre-Maintenance and Maintenance chapters... and more info than in DANDR 2002 about following Atkins as a vegetarian or vegan.

There is some info on restaurants, which can come in handy for those people who eat out often. I don't agree with all restaurant meal suggestions (some contain trans fats, which I wouldn't touch), but overall I think they are good.

Are you reading the new book?

The first book was actually published in 1972... so it's not that one we're using here.

2010 is ok, but I'd wager a dollar all the success stories in there were from Atkins 2002 or '72 dieters.

I read it too - overall I thought it was a bit redundant but maybe a person could pick up a few tidbits here or there.
