  • Rash Due to Fat Loss?

I've been on the Atkins Diet since September of 2009 and have lost approximately 65 lbs and am approaching my goal weight. There are still some areas where I need to lose fat; my stomach, chest, thighs, etc. In the past few weeks, I've been getting rashes in these areas where I still have fat. Once the rash clears up, there seems to be less fat there. I've heard that losing fat can release toxins which will show on the skin. Is this true? Am I crazy?

The rashes are extremely itchy and I've been using Cortaid to prevent myself from tearing up my skin. No, I have not been to a doctor and I don't plan to. The rashes clear themselves up in a few days.

I don't know about the fat releasing toxins and causing rashes but I do know that rashes can occur in skin folds. A doctor can give some Rx cream that works a lot better than the OTC Cortaid if you ever decide to go that route. A couple of great at home things to try is to get a bottle of regular Head & Shoulders shampoo (generic/store brand is fine) and use that as a body wash in those areas. The pyrithione zinc helps the rash. After showering, dry well and dust the areas with Gold Bond Extra Strength medicated powder (in the green "can"). HTH
