  • Water Intake

My mother always said that you know your drinking enough water when your pee is clear, like water. And I just read it again on the Most Memorable Posts forum. HOWEVER...I've been drinking between 90-128 oz of water per day since I started Atkins 3 weeks ago. And today is the first day I've actually had clear pee. In fact, it's actually been darker than usual since I've been guzzling water. Prior to drinking nothing but water, it was tea, soda and koolaid.

I have to be drinking enough water. I'm not going to drink more water because there is such a thing as drinking TOO much water and depleting your body of important nutrients it needs.

So what gives? Has anybody else had this problem? I did the Michael Thurmond diet and had the same problem...no clear urine!! Can something possibly be wrong with me??

EDITED TO SAY: This site has been absolutely the most informative site ever. I'm glad I found this site to keep me educated about Atkins and health in general. It's a wealth of information!!

My doctor said when losing weight you should take your current weight, divide it in half and that is how much water you shoul drink in ounces. But word to the wise don't drink too much at a time because it thins your blood and can make you dizzy and sick. I am not sure his advice goes for extremely overweight people because if your 400 pounds, 200 oz may be too much. I am guessing that this is a good way to judge to see if your getting enough because he is a doctor but everyone is different. Just thought I share what he told me.

Yes, I have experienced that lightheaded feeling when I drink too much water too fast ... the best advice is to drink it slowly but steadily all day long. And be sure you taking your supplements so you're not peeing out valuable nutrients.

My water intake varies by day, between 90-128 oz. Somedays, I just can't make it to 128 oz. (I have a 64 oz. water mug I bought at Walmart..I love it, I fill it up twice a day). Most days, I drink about 100 oz.

I had (and so have a few other's onthe board) the neon yellow pee at the beginning of this woe and it really freaked me out LOL. Turns out that it's just my body ridding itself of excess B vitamins from my multi. I switched vitamins and it went away..If it's very bright yellow..this is the cause.

Dark urine in spite of water intake may be something to be concerned about. Personally I would visit the doctor sometime this week to discuss it.

My first thought is either your supplements or meds or even herbal tea which has colorants. My vitamins and anti depressants affect the color of my urine.

If its not that, then maybe you need to talk to your doctor.

Yep, I was also going to say the vitamins are probably the culprit! :yes
