WOW. Ok well you've inspired me. I can lose 30lbs by August...I know I can...I just have to work my butt off (literally) to do it. I will up the cardio to 5 times a week and in addition to my belly dancing hopefully that will help. So I will take all my measurements tonight and begin induction again tomorrow. I want to stay on induction until I get dow 20lbs.

You say you don't eat meat but how about fish? Try searching the net for low carb cream sauces for fish (i'm sure there are tons) as well check the recipe section of this site.Tuna salad with Mayo will up your calories (and add some protein) as will egg salad and devilled eggs. Tofu is allowed on induction as well.

Try out this site for recipes, alot of people on this board use it..it's fantastic. She has a section for meatless dishes as well as seafood under 'main dishes' :

you really do need to bring your calories and fat intake . HTH

Hi again thanks for the input. I don't eat fish either but I do eat eggs and egg salad...so ok maybe I will try that. I'm very depressed about it today and just about ready to give up. I have not eaten more than 20 carbs for over a month now and haven't lost an ounce and it doesn't seem fair. Does not appear I will reach my goal...

OK since you don't eat fish either, you should check out the meatless dishes on linda's site i posted above, I just looked and there are quite a few recipes for quiches, veggie casseroles etc that I think would help you!

Since you are struggling with your proteins maybe you should move to a modified owl, keep your carbs at 20 but start maybe adding some of the rungs and see how it goes? Nuts are not allowed on induction but I think they're probably a good addition for you (I think you'll have to cut them out first then readd them to see if they're possibly stalling you)

You're probably a good candidate for Protein shakes as well. Just look for one sweetened with splenda, or buy a natural unsweetened one and sweeten it yourself. try making a smoothie out of flavoured one with some heavy cream/water, maybe add a tbsn of coconut oil (you won't taste it). stay away from any protein bars as they're sweetened with sugar alcohols!

Try posting the owl forum and maybe see what the experts have to say about trying a modified OWL? You'll probably get a lot of great advice.

I hope this helps..don't give up yet!

Thanks you guys. I posted for the DR or the RN to see how I could add the calories...and if maybe my body make up is different due to my gallbladderless state? Also any ideas on the shakes even though ya'll mentioned they cause stalls?

I also wanted to clarify about the Crystal Lite, if you are using the powdered mix then the other poster was right, don't drink it. But if you are drinking the Crystal Light that comes premixed in the bottles, then you may have it, the premixed variety is made with Splenda! :yes

Is the reason for Splenda b/cause of the sugars that are in the other sweetener? I have yet to find the pre mixed Crystal Lite, I think its a Massachusetts thing.

:wave I use soy protein powder 0 carbs 0 fat 5 grams protein per tablespoon and it mixes eaisly with water or in a veggie dish that you are cooking. It has no real taste of its own it takes on the taste of what you put it in.

I bought it a t Ray's in California it is Bob's Red Mill Soy Protein Powder. You can make your own protein drinks with it. This is the site that makes it. http://www.bobsredmill.com/ There is a search tool to find stores near you.

I feel badly for you that you are feeling so down and that you are struggling as much as you are. However, until and unless you read the book thoroughly, and until you understand the concept behind "starvation mode and lack of weight loss", you will continue to struggle through this with little to no weight loss. Right now you are starving yourself and your body is holding on fiercely to each and every pound for it's very survival. You cannot lose weight effectively unless you fuel your body to put it into a fat burning mode.

As for protein, I often have days where my protein comes solely from eggs. And I am losing quite nicely. Additionally, you need to definitely increase your vegegtables and salads daily. I find I lose best if I have some veggies with each and every meal. Here is a sample of what I would eat if I were you on a restricted protein source for Atkins...

Meal 1: 3 egg omlet with 1.5 oz cream cheese, 1/2 cup broccoli, 1/2 cup tomatoes inside

Meal 2: 2 cups lettuce, 2T salad dressing, 2 eggs hardboiled, 1/2 avacado

Meal 3: protein shake with 1/2 cup pasturized egg whites, 1 scoop protein powder, water & ice blended till smooth

Meal 4: Spinach quiche with 1 cup egg whites + 1 whole egg, 1/2 package frozen spinach thawed and squeezed dry, 1/8 cup chopped onions, 1 cup mushrooms sauteed in butter

I ran this through fitday.com up to here and it comes out to Fat=60%, Protein=33%, Carbs=7%, Calories=1423, Net Carbs=26g.

There's a lot of food up to this point, and likely what I would eat in a day, so I may not even have the 5th meal if I were doing this type of menu, because I would be stuffed and quite satisfied with what is listed above.

Meal 5: 1 boca burger, without the bun, with lettuce, tomato, mustard

You also need to make sure you get in at least 8 glasses of water a day as a minimum (each glass should be 8oz or 1 full measured cup).

I am sure that if you try something like this type of menu plan, you will see the pounds come off. But you must be diligent and stick to the plan.

we have serveral very successful vegetarians on our board Missy 90 is very informed and if you PM her she can give you some tips. We also have a topic in the FAQ from the Atkins folk back when it was still DR Atkins expalining how they modify induction for Vegetarians you chould check it out. Atkins is a ketogenic plan and uses dietary fats to keep the system primed for burning body fats as fuel since fats use a different hormone then carbs and proteins as fuel and they are mutually exclusive.

Upping your cals will up your metabolism too and the full exercise program will asssit it too.

The best investment you can make is to read DR ATKINS' NEW DIET REVOLUTION 2002 or newer printing. for the $7 new it will cost you at the store you will be getting a bargin and be making the best incvestment in yourself you can make.

Even if you don't makethe scale weight by your deadline you will be a smaller healthier person with much less body fat and more lean tissues.

                          Happy low carbing

I don't know if it is taking me any longer to lose than most people, but I do find that if I stick with my guidelines and drink enough water, the weight does come off. I restarted induction 12 days ago and I am down 6 lbs so far since then. But to kick start any weight loss, you have to do it by the book, so ya gotta BUY the book! Eating too few calories and not enough of the right stuff, will stall you, inspite of and because you are starving yourself.

Good luck with putting everything into place to ensure your success. It can be done :nod ! There are many here who are proof of that. :nod

                                It's hard!

It's hard to follow the Atkins woe/wol if you don't eat meat. The book states that you have to follow the rules to the letter--when you make modifications, you are not doing Atkins :yikes. In order to take part in the woe/wol you would basically have to be willing to follow all of the rules listed. If you are not prepared to that, this woe may not be for you :sadblinky

If you are prepared to follow the rules, and decide to go with this woe--I will you all the success in the world :hug

I hope you are happy, whatever your decision may be. :wave
