  • canned chicken..?

this is a really strange question but....u know how tuna comes in those cans and u can just add mayo and dill or w/e u put in to make tuna salad, are there comparable cans for chicken or turkey (ie so that i can make instant chicken salad/turkey salad) i just am a little too lazy to sit and chop up chicken to make chicken salad plus i like that tuna salad is an really quick snack/meal to make

    -thanks guys!

I know that there are cans like that of chicken and ham usually in the same area as the tuna, but you want to make sure to check the ingredients lists as I haven't checked them in a while and I don't know how or what they are preserved with. urplequ:

Yep, there are lots of good brands of canned chicken on the market right now. One word of advice though always look at the ingredients - a lot of them include modified food starch. Member's choice at Cam's Club or Health Valley are my favorite brands at the moment.

The canned chicken is really not that bad a definate time saver. One of its drawbacks for me personally is the price for what you get. You pay for that time saver. The Atkins is a great diet, but really expensive it seems, so I try to prepare a lot of my foods instead of eating out.

I have to tell this story though. There is a mexican restraunt close to where I live, and my husband and I love eating there. One of the things I order a lot is the taco salad--->shelless, pilled w/tomatoes, cheese, and I tell them to substitute the hamburger meat (cause we all get burnt out on that) and replace it with fajitas. Just think of a regular dinner plate, well they pile that high with the taco salad for around $4.95 and it is very filling.

Restraunts will usually substitute foods for you and if they dont, they should not be in business because they are there to make money and please the customer...ok, im off my soap box now..lol!

        Keep up the great work!

Sams has some great ones, inexpenxive too. You can even get a memebership online, and shop online.

I buy the Walmart brand canned chicken and its great. It doesn't have anything "bad" in it. A can lasts me 4 servings as it should..about 1/4 cup per serving and its awesome when you're burnt out on tuna..and you use less mayo because its not dry.

For a change, I also buy canned salmon in place of tuna sometimes. I go to Costco, but I am sure it is comparable to Sam's club. Also, trader joe's has good canned crab meat that is not imitation, and it can be a good change from tuna
