What's your CCLL (Critical Carbohydrate Losing Level)? I have a theory that the folks who are able to "carb up" and lose weight or the people who can eat these relatively high carb "low carb foods" (high carb if you count the sugar alcohol, polydextrose, glycerin, etc.) have a higher carbohydrate tolerance level than the folks who can't. So they are able to lose weight even if they eat the equivalent of 50 total carbs. Therefore they really aren't "carb loading" or outsmarting their bodies, they are really eating below their individual CCLL. ensive
that's an intersesting theory actually, other than the digestive issues i can have them...and my CCLL is high, around 60 t 0 80 (depending on exercise, but 60 i'm good w/o much). you may have a good point there...depends on carb tolerance in general
Sadie, after reading thread upon thread of folks who "cheated" and still lose weight and are still in ketosis, it got me thinking....

My CCLL is 40, like Pam. 1 slice of thin crust pizza is between 15-20 net carbs. Theoretically, I eat a slice of thin crust pizza daily and eat my other Atkins foods and still lose weight as long as I don't go over my CCLL. In fact, I would theoretically still be in ketosis.

If a person opens up a thread of this nature, I feel like people need to hear the pro's and con's of frankenfoods, or anything of that nature. It should be expected, and respected...

Exactly, but let's delve a bit deeper and try to answer Maysea's question do frankenfoods work for some people, by brainstorming why they could.

It is expected, someone starts a thread like this probably at least once a week. I bet if a search was done, we could save a whole lot of space because we've had these arguments over and over and over again!

Megs I have a very high CCLL as you know over 110 but if I count only the magical mythical counting noncounting carbs in those little net effective carbs boxes I am looking for a major carb binder and weight loss stall out. if I could all the carbs not fiber on the labels I do just fine avoiding the SPlenda stuff as I'm one of those Splenda challenged folk.

A lot of the handleing of the frankenfoods (I use the definition of frankenfoods as those that have those little boxes not the stuff like the low carb bread or wraps that have only protein isolates as flour subs) in weight loss has to do with what you are willing to accept as your acceptable rate of lose and how you veiw those foods. many folk think a 220 cal atkins bar that was meant as a meal replacement bar is a great free snack cause it only has 2 net carbs and have one in the AM and one in the PM and get into trouble eating them as such but they would get into trouble eating a 220 cal snack of just about anything and complain about their Atkins not working cause they only lost X pounds during induction. I mean in theory you could do your Atkins perfect have 10.0000000001 net carbs of veggies and have 9.99999999999999999999999999 net carbs of bars adding over 1000 cals a day to your eating plan and be in real trouble losing weight. As I have read in the posts in this topic the successful users are those who have a few of the products a few times a month.

Those with a lot of weight to lose and not metabolically resistant can eat them and lose pounds and think they are uneffected by those bars but if they were snacking on veggie sticks and dressing might have lost even more pounds.

FOlk who do use the shakes and bars as meal replacement parts of their Atkins then have to deal with the "Slimfast" yoyo effect as they lose weight but then when they try to stop the bars and shakes and eat real foods they haven't been using the weight loss time to proctice real world eating and portion control so they regain their pounds thus insuring the profitablility of the company selling the bars and shakes for weight loss to repeat customers.

Well actually Meg my calories stayed about the same. I made sure I didn't go over 1200 a day the only times I had more was if I was hungry. I found I got hungry more with these foods as opposed to now. That probably had something to do with losing because these foods are so high in calories and I would replace a meal with them. I never really had the cravings for sweets with or without them. Megs you have made a good point. It just goes to show everyone is different.

                  YES

The answer is a definite yes.

There are dozens of people on here that consume(d) an occassional low carb product that some would call a frankenfood.

Some have reached goal, some haven't.
Some have stalled, Others show no negative effect whatsoever.

You will find many different types of people on this and any forum, all with opinions on the best way for X to work.

This is your journey. You are accountable for yourself, and if you find you can partake of an occassional 2 carb bar and have no effect - you go right ahead. If you find you can't tolerate sugar alcohol at all and choose to avoid that bar (or muffin mix or syrup or diet soda etc etc) - that's your call too.

Best of luck in your journey!

I am thinking it may have somehting to do with laen body mass and how much you can have I have a high CCL level and can have upt to and above 100 grams of carbs and still be in ketosis so long as it is not starchy carbs then I go out of ketosis. If I up my carbs with veggies and stawberries say one day and have say 60 grams of carbs then go the next day and have say a potato with some veggies same carbs but I would be out of ketosis. I think it has to do with the make up of the carbs and how your body processes those types pf things. With the bars I have had them and yes I have lost weight, but, they always throw me out of ketosis. I ahve had the bars 2 times in an emergency and both times BAM out of fat burning mode.

I have a very high Lean Body mass at 147 pounds most women are a lot lower then that and men usually have a fairly decent amount of muscle mass. If you have these bars I think it would be to the advantage of the person to have a lot of muscle cause muscle store glycogen and you would not see the negative effects of say someone with less LBM.

I hope I got somewhat technical enough for ya. I was having a brain FART.
