I am a newbie. I did Atkins in 2000 and lost 35 pounds. I quit when we had a death in the family and have since gained 50 pounds. I am now on this for life. I feel so much better. One of the best benefits is the lack of arthritis pain, and the energy I now have. My husband and I both need to lose about 100 pounds. I started this woe on 4-18-05 and have lost 11 pounds. I am so imspired by everyones posts.

I'm so new to this board that I don't know what DANDR stands for. Could you explain some of the changes in the 2002 version. My book is from 1999.
ThanksMichele SW250/CW 226/GW150 F, 38, 5'6"
I was down to 175 in 2007 and I will get back there again!

Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. Easy huh?
Welcome to the board. I understand your plight, losing and regaining.
I no longer have the 1999 version, but offhand I can't think of the differences except this, you can't have cottage and ricotta cheeses on Induction. You could in the old version, but not in the newer. 2big can probably rattle off all of them :yesSusanne

sure DANDR is short for DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION we use the 2002 version here
you can find the rules of induction and the fllds lists in the induction forum and in the FAQ section of the board but the 3 big changes are
rule 5 doesn't exist any more and now it says eat nothing not on the lists just one bite is the kliss of death so foods like nuts are not even considered until OWL
exercise is now mandatory both aerobic and weight training chapters 15 and 22 of the new book
the sweetner of choice has changed to SPlenda now and there are warning about Equal as a potential stalling agent as about 25% of the stalled out folk drinking aspartame sweetened sodas lost whern they gave up the aspartame as a sweetner. you can find SPlends soda in HAnsons and DIet RIte

Welcome back to Atkins! :nod
There's a really great Sticky on doing Atkins:
I like Peter's point that
because it is so true. A couple of days ago I was asked if I was still on a diet.Atkins is a way of life, not a fad, quick fix or easy solution for short term weightloss. The sooner you understand that and embrace it the better off you'll be.
I said no, it is my way of life now, I am used to it - suddenly realised by saying that, it stopped being a goal I had to conquer, it stopped being something I would get disappointed over if I was stalling...
and suddenly Atkins became a whole lot easier because I wanted to eat the Atkins way and not because I was "on Atkins"30yo F 5'5 (166cm)

Eat whole unprocessed foods. Avoid ALL junk foods, low carb or not. You'll do alot better eating meats, eggs, allowed veggies and fruits.
Follow all the phases.....
Read the book, follow the book, shop by the book, live by the book.
Food is fuel; not an emotional pillow.
Exercise every single day. Get your heart rate up a minimum of 30 minutes a day doing something you enjoy. Commit to a month of exercise and it will become a habit and one you will NEVER give up.
Believe in yourself. I believe that this is as much a mental battle as it is physical.
Trust the plan. Trust the genius behind it. YOU CAN DO IT!

:wave Hi, this is my second time on Atkins. The first time I lost 60 lbs and have gained back 35. I have been on the Atkins the second time since the middle of April and have only lost 10 lbs. Much less than the first time I started. A little discouraged. I am purple in Ketosis, following religiously, can't understand why I am not dropping the weight. I have definately lost inches. Can anyone shed some light on what I may me doing wrong?Dieting Guru
