  • Sweet Cravings - Need help!

    Hi everybody.
I've been doing Atkins for quite awhile now and have lost 43 lbs, but lately I haven't been doing very well at all. I've noticed that I do well for a couple of days, but then the sweet cravings take control and I usually cave. I really need some advice how to kick the cravings.

The only way to slay the sweet dragon is to STARVE HIM TO DEATH. No sweets; no artificial sweeteners. NONE. NADA. ZILCH. Once you break the addiction, you won't be able to tolerate ANYTHING SWEET. Trust me.

    STARVE HIM TO DEATH.

I totally agree with Betty, starve him!!

But, I have found that taking a 500 mg L-Glutamine caplet really helps me with the sugar cravings...I don't have 'issues' until evening, so I'll take it around 7:00 with a big glass of water!

When I do get into the pinch your talking about, I fix myself the cream cheese and unsweetened cocoa concoction I found here on the board. It's just enough to satisfy my need for a chocolate and sweet taste.

I just mix about 3 T. Cream Cheese with a t. of unsweetened cocoa and about a t. of Splenda and mix it up. (It is easier to blend together if you melt the cream cheese in the microwave just a bit.) MMMMM! :nod I do not make a habit of having this very often (including Splenda or any other sweeteners for that matter!)

Since I got this tip from here on the board, does anyone have a better explanation of this recipe? I just kinda "dollop" it together. If so, please post!

            Hope this helps~

Although the two previous posters are correct in that their suggestions would be better to eat/drink than giving in and eating something with sugar if you really can't resist it, you would do better in the long run to do as Betty suggested and STARVE your sugar monster by eating a highfat snack instead of feeding your monster with fake sugars.
Some people find their body responds the same way to artificial sweeteners as it would to real sugar :yikes
There is a good sticky about this called 'the cephalic insulin response' which perhaps anyone battling with the sugar monster ought to read
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Vicky, Shelly is right - I've tried L-Glutamine (mine are 1,000mg tablets so I take only half) - the tablets really do work, and they also work as an appetite suppressant too. I also take chromium on a more regular basis and I find these 2 tablets are fantastic for controlling cravings (esp for that one time I drank German beer, and I have massive cravings for 3 days afterwards)
