  • Face it Folks ... With Age Comes Limitations

I've been reading alot of posts on this board about 'well when I was younger, I could get away with....'

Let me state officially that the RULES CHANGE AS YOU AGE .. even on Atkins ... your body changes .. you have less latitude with what you can eat and/or drink.

Be prepared to adjust your woe to fit your age bracket. At 30, you will notice a difference, at 40, you will SEE a difference, at 50, you will FEEL a difference.

Its not just about carbs; you MUST monitor your portions and calories too! And exercise is absolutely ESSENTIAL to prepare your body to continue to age well and be at its best.

AND,, I am eager to hear about those success stories from the older folks, no matter how small. SO, please share, I need some encouragement,, I am one of the older folks,, trying to decide how this plan is going to work for me....

      Cathy, how old are you?

      Just curious ..

Believe me, I was soooooooooooooooooooo skeptical that this plan would work for me at age 46 and a bonafide couch potato ... ugh, to think back to 2002 just boggles my mind that I let myself go ...

Thank heavens for Dr. Atkins ... and thank heavens for the day I picked up a copy of the 2002 edition of DANDR .. it has forever changed my life and I am now a nearly 50 year old success story ...

Hon, if I can do this, so can you. Let me know how I can help encourage, inspire and motivate you. I so have a heart to help others succeed.

      :hug

Am one of the older ones too. 51. And yes! For me it worked too! :joy Maybe not as fast as it would have a few years back... but then, direction is more important than speed.

Started Atkins in January and have lost 13 kilos (I think that's about 28 lbs). Have more energy and feel just great! Recently moved to OWL rung 1, where I'll probably stay awhile. Want to lose another three kilos or so... and maintain!!!

          Happy low carbing!

It worked for me at 60. I lost 89 pounds my first year on this woe and have maintained that for an additional 5 months which is a first for me.

Worked for me too. I'm 54 now and started this WOE May of last year. I reached goal at Christmas time and have maintained since then. Feel younger and healthier with more energy than I've had in decades.

It's working for me at 55; but only when I work the plan correctly. I started last June but decided I could cheat occasionally or make my own rules. Needless to say I lost the same 10 pounds about three times. Since then I have stuck to the plan and exercise, and the weight is dropping. 25 1/2 pounds gone, 12 or so to goal. I've never felt better than I do right now.

That is one thing that shocked and awed me...better balance...

I was in a creek with a small waterfall where I go and hike, and I usally have fun by jumping the rocks...before it was tough becuase I couldn't keep my balance...now I can do it like a pro.

Also, isn't it wonderful that Atkins has no age limits? My mom is petite, and had a tummy tuck last year, but her stomach hadn't gotten as small as she wanted it, so she began taking diet pills (Relacore) which is for people over 40 who'd like to lose stress pounds. Now she's planning on going under the knife again and getting liposuction. She's 5'3, 140, If only she'd lose the extra 10 pounds on Atkins, but she refuses to go on this diet "it's too demanding" so she says

I don't mind at all .. 133 pounds of pure couch potato. I was horrendously inactive and flabby. A disgrace. My back killed me all the time. My knees were in constant pain. HELLO? I was 46 at the time and felt like 76.

Then entered DANDR .. MY LIFE TOTALLY CHANGED FOREVER. God love that man!!

I have no pain anywhere ... I run 35 miles a week .. I eat the foods I love .. more veggies than ever. Haven't darkened a door of fast food since I can't remember when. People tell me I don't look a day over 35 and I'll be 50 in December. My birthday present to myself is to participate in the Walt Disney World Half Marathon on January 7, 2006. Just to finish it will be a dream come true for me.

I have 13% body fat. I am solid as a rock. I sleep like a baby .. I feel absolutely wonderful.

This woe has forever changed my life for the good! I no longer have pain anywhere ... (well maybe in the toes after a 12 mile run!!) :yikes

IF I CAN DO IT AT AGE 46, THEN ANYBODY CAN!

Wow, weight loss even lets you sleep better? Sounds great. I do feel the boost of energy though, I never used to walk anywhere, now I'm willing to walk anywhere, anytime
