I tried sushi for the first time whilst I was in oz. I managed to find some sort of fish on a bed of green leaves.
Only thing i could find that was Atkins friendly and it was nice.sigpic260/215/180 Male - 36 y/o

Hi Maysea :wave
You should be able to find jars of grated horseradish in the supermarket.
As has been said look at the list of ingredients to make sure it hasnt got sugar or one of its 'aliases' as well as the nutrition information.
Fresh horseradish doesnt seem to be available - or it might be seasonal.
Perhaps if you can find an oldfashioned greengrocer you could ask them if they ever have it and if so when in the year you should look out for it.
Or you could grow your own from seed in a pot?Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Sashimi would be just the raw fish, no rice.Originally posted by Richtmotherofgizmo wrote -

Sushi is a bite sized item with rice, sometimes with raw fish, sometimes with veggies or cooked items like shrimp or eel etc.

Warning - DON'T grate your own!!!
PLEASE don't try to grate your own horseradish - there's a reason you can usually only buy it ready grated or made up into sauce. It's like a million times worse than chopping onions - you grate the stuff, you're gonna need more than just gloves and goggles!!!!!!!!!
I'd just buy the least carby sauce you can find and use a small amount. The stuff's really strong and you only need a tiy bit.
If you must grate your own, it can be found growing alongside loads of grass verges in the UK, though not usually till later in the year.Started lowcarb February 2, 2004

I have used fresh (a friend once gave me some root) and grated it myself but I am lucky enough to wear contact lenses and found that I didn't get problems - I can grate onions without crying too :yikes
I didnt know about it growing wild - must find a picture of what it looks like and keep my eyes open when out and about :yes Do you know when is the best time of year to pick it?Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

toss your fresh peeled stuff in the blender or food processor and stand back when you lift the lid. you want to add some vinegar to halt the enzyme reaction that is causing the heat after aabout 30 seconds. if you add ice to the machine in the beginning you will not have as much heat hit you in the face when you remove the lid.

Eeek - ALL my books are now either packed or already 1500 miles away and I can't access any of my wonderful herb or wild flower info :sadblinky
Ok - here's a link for a photo or two - hope it works, I don't usually attempt links...
Can't give much more info as I've never done it myself - I live in Wales and it doesn't really grow around here but my DH points it out if ever we are driving through England. It seems a fairly big sort of plant - 18" or so tall and pretty vigourous, not difficult to spot once you've got your eye in as if seems to grow in clumps that stick up above the grass. I guess the best time to dig it is when you find some! It's not technically legal to uproot any wild plant without the landowner's permission, so be a little discreet, though it grows as a weed. Also, watch that the verges haven't been sprayed.Started lowcarb February 2, 2004
