  • alton towers problem

ok im goin alton towers soon but fear that i may not fit on the rides, besides the embarrassment i also really wanna have fun. im 14 stones, don't have a fat tummy, all my fat is mainly in my hips/bum and thighs. what rides to u think i can fit or not fit on?

also, do u think wearing those slim shaper suits will help? i have worn one, and it does make me look slimmer, but would this make me tighter or looser for the rides? as all the fat gets concentrated into a tight area - i.e. holds it all in.

any info would be helpful, thanks.

Are you male or female? What are your measurements?

I would say if you are a 14 stone male, you will fit in the rides. But I think it does depend on your measurements really.

(Btw, for anyone outside of the uk. Alton Towers is a theme park with loads of roller coasters etc.)

Have you got a chair with arms at home that you can 'just' fit into?
If so measure the distance between the arms.
Then visit their website to find contact details and ask them to tell you their seats sizes so you can work out how you would fit them.
          Have fun :hug

          Edited to add this info:

I had a few minutes spare so I phoned Alton Towers (0870 4444455) and asked them what size their seats on the rides are and they were able to tell me their 'girth' (chest) maximum requirement for the harnesses is 52" but were unable to tell me what the seat sizes are - even though she rang 2 other departments to try to find out!!
She did say that the most popular rides (Nemesis and Oblivion) do have 'large seats' but could find no actual measurements. :sadblinky
Apparently for safety regulations they have to state chest measurements to make sure the harnesses fit but have never thought it necessary to advise of seat widths :yikes

Seems obvious to me that seat sizes are just as important as there is no point the harnesses fitting if the visitor can't squeeze into the seats!

I asked her to pass on a suggestion that they find and have the seat sizes available and she said she would pass that on.

Maybe any other UK members might like to also phone and ask how big their seats are to show them there is 'a call' for this info?

          Hope this helps

              did you mean chest 52"?
If so then that is within their maximum for the harnesses fitting.
However you still may not fit into their seats so if it were me I would phone them and ask them to find out from their technical department what hips size will fit into them. someone there ought to know that fact.

Or get them to measure the distance between the arms of the seats and tell you what it is. It wouldnt take them long to get one of the maintenance people to go with a tape measure and do that for you.
Then if you dont have a chair that size at home or work to try out you can maybe put two boxes that distance apart on a bench or table and see if you will fit between them. :hug

One thing you have to remember when talking to them is that you are a potential customer of theirs and it is your right to find out before you spend money on the entrance fee to know if you will be able to use their facilities.
Don't be embarrased to ask to speak to a manager of their customer services department or a director if they try to fob you off by saying they don't know the info you want - they can find out if they want to!! and make sure you know the name of everyone you speak to, so they know you will name names if it comes to a formal complaint.

Can you tell I can be quite a stroppy person if I don't think someone is being helpful?

chest is 32, not 52 - so with that i should fit that bit.

but like u said, thats not the part im worryin about, im talkin about the bottom bit. when it actually pulls down there - just wonderin tho, do u think wearin a body suit will help? i know it makes it tighter, as in length wise goes down. but height is higher, cos it compresses the fat.

i guess ill give them a call, but dunno how helpful they'll be after u tried. thanks v.much though

I went to Disney World, Universal, Animal Kingdom in Orlando about a year or two ago, before I started Atkins. Looking over my stats that I was taking around that time, my hips were around 54 inches. It was snug, but I fit. I looked up what the conversion between stone and pound would be and I'm guessing that would make you equivalent to 196 pounds. When I went to Disney World, I was around 230 pounds.

I think it'll be fine. I also gain weight first in my hips, butt, and thighs. It wasn't until after I got pregnant and had my daughter that I started gaining weight in my stomach and upper body.

I'm not sure if the UK theme park would be the same as the theme parks in Florida, but I would guess that they could have approximately the same measurements.
