  • Water Problem

    Hi Everyone!

I have a serious problem with drinking water....I find it very hard to do...unfortunately I drink alot of diet coke and just started back on Crystal Light Lemonade drink which has no sugar and no carbs.

I am not on the Atkins diet yet but will be very soon...just trying to get some info and make sure I start on the right track.

So any suggestions out there? arty

Cut out the crystal light and diet coke and keep a bottle of water with you at all times. Drink whenever you think of it, whenever you see it, whenever you feel a little hungry whenever you feel like you have to pee. Anything you can think of to remember to drink your water.

Well, believe it or not, the more you drink water the more you learn to like it. You can have the crystal lite in the premixed bottle, but not the powdered version you mix yourself.

BUT, you have to limit your servings to your daily allowance of sweeteners and it does not count toward your daily water requirements.

Try drinking it through a straw. I've always been a big water drinker, but I find I drink more of anything, if I drink it through a straw.

It may help you to keep up with your water intake by buying one of those big insulated plastic cups with a straw in it. Walmart always has a variety to choose from.

        Good luck!

It's not bad but if you are quenching your thirst with non water it will be more difficult to get your water in. The powdered crystal light has apartame which is a known staller.

Also, the crystal light won't help defeat the sugary cravings demons.

Believe me soon water is all you'll crave to drink. You do get used to it. Actually I now notice different flavors in just plain water (tap, bottled, whatever).

I thought you'd hav started by now. C'mon it's been a day, the rest of your life is waiting for you.

You have to learn to read the ingredients list as well as the nutritional label. Just because something claims to have no carbs does not mean that what is in it is acceptable for this WOE!

Any sweetener (or powdered drink) that is powdered has some carbs (they don't have to list any carbs if the carb level is less than 1 gram. But it could be .9 carbs!! That is why I don't drink the powdered drinks or use powdered sweeteners (I use a liquid sweetener).

OK, about the importance of pure water! Do you want to lose fat? Then you simply must drink at least 64 oz per day. The formula we use is 8 oz of water for every 25 lbs you want to lose (above and beyond the 64 oz).

Please read Why the Scales Can Lie in the FAQ forum. This will tell you how important it is to drink water if you want to lose fat.

I hope you decide to make Atkins a way of life, you wont regret it!

You might want to invest in a water filter pitcher. I find that some bottled waters and the municipal water supply have an "off taste" and a weird odor. Filtered water typically doesn't and is easier to drink.

I had dinner at an organic restaurant last night and they have some water filtering process that removes all taste and odors from their water. It was a really different drink all together....

                        Thanks all for the replies!!

I think the water here is great since I live up in the mountains of Montana but I just have a problem with drinking it.

I might have to squeeze some lemon juice in the water and see how that goes when I start the program on Monday...Wish me luck!! ha

You know another think that helps me get my water down is not to drink it so cold. In fact room temp water or just slightly cooler is my favorite way to drink it.

I'm right with ya. I am one of those people who just can't drink that much water without REALLY trying. But, take it from me, just get over it.... I’ve tried to do this with out the water and the truth is I lose twice as fast when I get all my water in AND when I don't drink the water I get leg cramps at night. I don't know why, but I know for me it's related to my water consumption. A few of my tricks: I find on the days I exercise I'm able to drink more water with less effort. I keep adding ice all day long, it's easier for me to drink when it's ice cold (of course it's 100 degrees out side right now) and sometimes I add a lemon wedge, not all day, but for a treat to get me over the hump. Think about it this way.... the more water in your tummy the less hungry you'll feel (until the 3rd week when you won't be hungry anyway ensive ) Good luck.

Good point about room-temperature water. It's much easier to drink. I always ask for no ice in my water when I go out to eat now, and I find I drink a lot more.
