  • Suppositories Question!!

Make a long story short...ever since I started the atkins approach been constipated (2 weeks) so I tried the pscyillium husks...and still didn't work, so this morning I took Fleet Glycerin Suppositoy...and although it is not something that is ingested [it's inserted] (sorry to be so graphic!) I'm freaking out because it has glycerin in it! I know, I know I shouldn't use a laxative, but desperate times cause for desperate measures (and this was only a one time deal) but do u think it will have thrown me out of ketosis??Any advice or info u have would be greatly appreciated!
    says:
active ingredient glycerin, USP 2g and inactive ingredients are adetate disodium, purified water, sodium hydroxide, and stearic acid.

P.S. I know it definitely dehydrates so I have been drinking TONS of water to combat that affect

If I'm constipated I normally use a fleece enema. You can buy them pre-package and pre-measured at any Pharmacy store.

If you used a suppository, you inserted it rectally, and I cannot fathom it throwing you out of ketosis.

But the enema I think would have immediate results over a suppository that would soften the stool and let you push out. You will need to be able to hold the water in until it loosens the stool, then you can push it out. You may be impacted, and may need to give yourself more than one enema.

Have you been consuming a fair amount of cheese? That binds me up tighter than a piece of wet leather.

If so, try cutting back on the cheese, and make sure you have your leafy permitted greens daily.

Good luck, I know being constipated sucks, and you don't want to rely on enemas or suppositories for your bowels to move.

I use the suppositories when I need them and no, your body won't absorb any glycerine from them....unless you ..uh...put it up into your intestines where digestion occurs. :yikes
