  • Can anyone help me understand a fat fast?

In the past, I have read something about jump starting the dieting by eating only fats. What does this do?

Secondly...has anyone experienced gall bladder disfunction and do you know of anything to prevent it?

the fat fast is discussed in DANDR and is only for ther metobholically ressitant folk. it isn't something to jump start your Atkins as induction in and of itself will jumpstart your weight loss.

You should discuss your gallbadder problems with your doctor. We have many mnay folk here at ADBB that are big losers and don't have gallbladders so it isn't a requirement for Atkins as long as your liver is working properly and creating the bile for fat digestion.

    Happy low carbing.

To persuade your body to start burning fats instead of carbs, Atkins gets them to cut down to 20g of carbs - that's the induction phase and it works for virtually everybody. When those ketosis sticks start to change colour you know you're burning fat!

For some people, 20g of carbs is still too much to persuade their bodies to switch to fat-burning and they have to have to get rid of *all* their carbs for a while to force their body into switching over to fat burning - if there's no carbs left in the body it just has to burn fat!!

The fat fast is a last-ditch attempt to kick the body into fat-burning mode by completely depriving it of carbs for long enough for it to switch.

Sorry, I know nothing about gall-bladder problems, but as its important in digesting fats, I certainly wouldn't try a fat-fast if you suspect you have a problem. Just cut your carbs right down to induction levels and probably leave your fat at your 'normal' intake to avoid upsetting it.

      And *see a doctor*!!

Hope this helps - let us know how you get on.
