  • A quick cheat? Your opinion...?

Well, today technically I am taking a trip to Seattle with the boyfriend and staying in a Hotel, lots of shopping, etc. I just really want to enjoy myself and maybe eat whatever I want... for just 24 hours....1 day. And continue back on schedule on Sunday.

What do you guys think of this? And what are your experiences with this?

I have been at a horrible stall, can't get any lower than 150 on the dot. I've heard that a carbfest sometimes can magically break stalls.

However, who knows... it could be a bad thing.

I know I may feel guilty doing this. I have been on the diet for almost 2 months, I haven't cheated on a single morsle.

So whad'ya think? Bad news? Will I get like a horrible stomach ache, or constipated or any embarassing thing like that?

I dunno what to do!! I really want to have a terrific day! :no

its up to you. I know alot of people in here are deadset against cheating. but I know alot of people do indulge every once and awhile. The problem with cheating is that some people have a hard time getting back on track. .. if you think you can go off for one day and step right back into it..
however there are consequences..it can take up to five days for you to go back into ketosis..you might not be able to give up those foods a second time..and you might get sick..yes some people get sick because they are reintroducing foods into their system that they havent had in awhile.. you know you best.

Not to mention diahrrea aswell. You shouldn't make a food such a "fun" priority. eat to live...not live to eat.

I wouldn't suggest cheating at all....because not only is it not going to break your stall...you are going to see a gain...and thats going to make you quit all together.

          Hi Enchanted One

We've had some posts like yours. What you are describing mimicks what is known as "Cyclic Ketogenic Diet"

Have a read of this thread:

I don't condone this way of eating, but I discovered my stall happened just after I had a carb weekend break.

Read the thread and make up your own mind

          Cheers

Another thing to consider is that we don't know just how hard on our bodies switching back and forth between glycosis and ketosis is. During my journey I have had 3 month-long cheats. Yes, they were longer than what you discuss, but those month-long cheats started with a "I'll just have this one Pringle today...." Each cheatfest was worse that the next, and finally, after the last cheatfest, I smartened up. However, even though I got back on track, I had these bizarre abdominal pains and I was very sick for 3 weeks! I went to the doctor, got a bunch of tests and they found nothing. I believe that my body was reacting to the switch from low carb to high carb and back again.

We don't just eat a different way, but our bodies function differently. My body liked being on low carb and ran smoothly, when I switched to high carb it reacted violently like a two-year-old having a temper tantrum.

            Keep that in mind.

Plus, I want to tell you that Atkins is a WOL not a diet you can go on and off of. You aren't serious about changing to low carb forever if you want to go on a high carb binge. Why don't you impress your boyfriend by showing him how much willpower you have? Don't worry, you won't suffer, there are so many delicious foods you can eat when you go out.

I agree on the fact that you may get sick when you spike up the carbs. What not fun about atkins, it will only be fun if you make it fun, The times I begrudged being on a diet is when i wasnt fully intending to stick with it.

              Just my 2 cents.

Not worth it to me. Only leads to more cheating as far as I'm concerned. Junk food is never worth jepardizing everything I've worked so hard for.

                    Thank you everyone!

After reading your posts, I have decided I will not cheat today. You're right... I can still find things to enjoy.

And I will bring a couple nuts and a low carb candy bar to keep me sane--I love those

I'll treat myself in that way.

To me honest, I'd rather not have to take another couple days to get into Ketosis, when I'm already in it!... And I REALLY don't want to get sick. Boy, wouldn't that ruin my FUN day!?

what stage of atkins are you in? If you've done your two week induction, you may want to consider making the switch to OWLS this way you can eat more carbs - in veggie form for the 1st rung - without cheating. This might also help break your stall.

I'd be very very wary of cheats they can do horrible things with your metabolism and your overall weightloss.
