yep the book which yes i have read is for information but when we ask for suport here we get told read the book thats my point urplequ:
Well, everyone is told to read the book, because we don't know if they have. For example, if they ask questions like "Can I eat potatoes during Induction" or something similar, it's quite obvious that they haven't.
Sometimes there are folks who come here as a replacement to read the book or understand the diet---which is the wrong thing to do because the mods and old-timers are human and we might not remember what Dr. Atkins wrote in the fourth paragraph of Chapter 8.
oh boy if you read the book and its important to you you dont forget i mean did you have potatoes for dinner because you forgot?
i can answer everything in the book yes i have read it
soooo i would answer peoples questions not chant read the book i get mad because its like you folks are trying to sell the book not give people the advice they have come here for :raving
Almost everything you need to know to succeed on Atkins can be found in the book. Granted, it's a lot of info to take in within one sitting and it would take the dilligence of a Bible scholar to know everything in it. It's not expected of anyone to master everything in the book.
Of course the book doesn't answer everything. That's what we're here for. If someone responds to your question with "read the book", it means that your question can be answered in much more detail by the book than anybody here can. If there's something about what is written you can't understand, then you come to this forum to ask and discuss.

This is why we tell those people to please read the book. Like you said, if you've read it and the information is important to you, you would hardly forget that information. The problem is that there are people don't even bother to read the book.
i can answer everything in the book yes i have read it
I never said you didn't. So I don't understand why you feel the need to justify that you did...

Again, we tell people to read the book because we get people who use this forum as a replacement for reading the book. That's the wrong thing to do because there is alot of misinformation about Atkins. You can even read some of that misinformation here on the forums, such as "you'll stop losing weight during OWL" or "you'll stop losing weight if you eat more than 20 net carbs". That's why, we strongly advocate people to read the book for themselves---educate themselves about this diet and how it works.
Furthermore, there are some things Dr. Atkins explained much better and in more detail than what many of us can reproduce here on the forums. For example, the supplements---it would be impractical to reproduce the mineral components of Basic 3 in every thread where someone asks if they can take a multivitamin other than the Atkins brand. Likewise, it would be impractical to reproduce the metabolic resistance chart in Chapter 12 or the Blood Sugar Symptom Test in Chapter 13 when a person who owns the book can simply turn to the pages and look at it themselves.
Getting advice and support are different than using these forums as a replacement for reading. I frankly don't understand the people who do it because the book is an instruction manual---I mean would you change the oil to your car without reading the owner's manual or would you attempt operating a table saw on the advice of a person who has a different model? But you get all types here and because of that it's better to be safe than sorry.

Let me tell you about a math teacher I once had, Mr de los Reyes. This math teacher had practically memorized every page of the textbook we were using. Every time a student would ask a question, he would answer the question, then refer to the page number on the textbook where the answer could be found. The amazing thing about him was, even if the same student were to ask the question a dozen times, he would still patiently answer the same way each and every time. I have never had a teacher like that before, or after him.
I see you've only been here a little over a month. Most of the people who give advice on this boards have been here for a year or more. They've had their fair share of "can I have potatos on induction" type questions so you can imagine their patience wearing thin.
The people here who give advice are just paying it forward, giving advice in a place where once they took advice. For some people, they've paid back far more than they've taken. They may not have the patience of Mr. de los Santos, but they're not paid either.
And in a lot of cases, "Read the book" is the best advice there is.
