            HERE'S A FEW SILLY, INTERESTING MAYBE EVEN FUN THINGS TO DO WITH THE SCALE FOR HE NEXT 2 WEEKS!

            1. take the batteries out of the scale and use them in the smoke detector..... because we know everybody needs new batteries in the smoke detector.
            2. take the batteries out or turn it upside down and use it for a step in your step arobics. one two one two, step up step down

            3. Use it as a doorstop.
            4. Use it as a booster seat for your toddler.
            5. Get your SO to hide it!
            6. Set your Jack-a-lantern on it.
            7. Cover the numbers with a sticky that has a motivational phrase on it
            8. box it, gift wrap it with a big bow and a note that states "do not open until October 22nd".
            9. send it to Gramma's House... or a friends.
            10. take and store it with your christmas decorations.
            11. Consider it on rung 10........and your on rung 1.

                  pru, you are okay. oct 8th is start date and you can step on the contraption again bright and early sunday morning, the 22nd, at the stroke of of midnight if you want. lol

                    lets just take a little stroll down the atkins highway for a few seconds.

                    yes, i will show page numbers and yes, it's a quote from the book but to be truthful, it's a better authority on this than i could ever be.

                    chapter 11, page 144
                    starting your induction, one of the tips that dr. A mentions is
                    Try not to weigh yourself every day, and, if possible, aim for just once a week.
                    i think the good doctor knew that there would be a danger of becoming too dependent on the scale.

                    again, in chapter 17, page 213
                    lifetime maintenance
                    I recommend that you know your weight - after all, it's one aspect of your general health that you can easily keep track of. Getting on the scale at least once a week is a must for for successful weight maintenance. When you find that you've gone 5 pounds or more over your maintenance weight or that your clothes are getting tight, you must put things back on the their proper course. And you must do it without delay!
                    i think of this as a good reason to climb the ladder. being the scaleaholic that i am, i find confort in knowing the good doctor recommends me to weigh a couple times a week.

                    i think what we need to do, and this is my opinion, we need to find balance. it isn't wrong to step on the scale but to depend on it solely to guage our loss is not the absolute determining factor.

                    Dr. Atkins gives us a guideline of one week intrevals but we are doing 2 in hopes that we can become confident in how we are eating, the amount of exercise we are doing and our water consuption. i tend to think that if i don't have the scale to tell me exactly what my number is, i will probably eat better, make sure i get that exercise in and i'll make sure i get my water drank each day. i don't want any surprises at the end so i'll probably stay more committed and perhaps that is how some of you will react during the 2 weeks.

                    i will indeed send out a reminder pm on saturday to each and everyone who is signed up!

                      one very big reason not to weigh is because many mnay folk use the scale nuber to validate their efforts working their Atkins and/or their emotional status for the rest of the day. I call those folk the scalenumberaphobics,

                      On any weight loss program we will have some days if goes down somwe days iof goes up and some days it doesn't move in an amount we can detect. BUT that doesn't mean we didn't shed fat mass.

                      Scales only measure the effect of the force of gravity on our total mass. It has no idea if you have shed fat mass, added muscle mass or fluid mass. everybody go jump on your sclaes. then drink 16 ounces of water and hunp back on the sclaes see you just added a pound of sclae weight when you know it is water weight.

                      I call doing atkins right morphing our bodies. We shed fat mass and because the 30% protein levels fAtkins WOE exceeds the amouint of protein needed ofr just body repairs our bodies will jump at the chance to increase the protein stores in our nuscles and organs plus with the mandatory daily exercise part of Atkins we are buliding new muscle tissues in our muscle too. so there is an increase in that mass daily even if it is only a fraction of a pound. Thiose that have been doing Atkins for a while know all about this cuase they are wearing smaller sizes at a heavier weight on the way back down to their healthy weight then they did on the way up. We look smaller and are smaller in size at heavierr scale weights cause our lean bodymass is heavier but our total fat mass is lighter.
                      this is why we always encourage new toADBB folk to make friends with their tape measures so they can see the inches of fat being shed even when the scales don't.

                      Lastly as you all learned in the above demonstation the fluid mass in our bodies is constantly fluctuating. We for very complicated biochem reasons have a system that plumps fluids into our tissues as fats are removed females ahve that wonderful monthly fluid changing levels and then there is that every time we increase our muslces load they increase their fluid contnet until they learn the new load is the normal load issue. All of that keeps out fluid levels in a constant state of flux. when the fluid levels excedd our body's individual tolerance for the biochemical interference this additional fluis is causeing we will generate a chemical that causes us to shed the fluid in a large amount and we see a rapid sudden overnight scale change of pounds lower even though we didn't do anything to cause this to occur yesterday. folk here call it a visit from the whooshie fairy. then the fluid plumping starts again and on the scales it masks the fat mass kosses.

                      so you can know you are working your Atkins right and getting smaller and healtheir without using the scales and never be disappointed cause the metal monster didn't validate your efforts.
