      Losing weight is very important to me. I'm a diabetic Type II and can get off the medication if I lose enough weight. The medication makes me sick. I feel better when I do low carb and I'm committed to continue it.

        Jumping in late, I finished my assignment this morning, just didn't get a chance to post here yet

        DAY 1, Monday
        1. Done! Posted notes on my computer desk, fridge, front door and bathroom mirror.

        2. Posted in my journal here this more, updated my personal blog this morning as well - will continue to do so on a daily basis.

        5. Answer this question: How important to me is losing weight?
        Wow... I'm not even sure where to start. Back before I got married I lost weight so that I would look good in my wedding dress, wanted to look good for my husband. Since I had my son, I've wanted so badly to lose weight - so that I looked better when others saw me. I feel strongly about that being my reason for failure, I wasn't doing it for ME. This time around, I'm doing it for me! I want to enjoy life, not sit back hiding because I feel fat and self conscious. I want to be healthy, I'm tired of going to the doctor and getting some new diagnosis added to my already long list of issues - then being told there is nothing they can do for it. I want to look as good on the outside as I feel inside since I started Atkins. I want to be a role model for my kids, I'm home with them full time - I want do all of the things they want me to do with them. Yes, I still want to look good for my husband - but this time around I'm not doing this for him. This isn't a diet to me, this is a new way of life, I will never be on a diet again and once I reach goal I will work my hardest to stay there, forever. So, losing weight is very important to me... I need to do this for me.

          i get chills up me spine when i see the "ME" in these posts. so much of what we do is for someone else... kids, husband/wife, maybe the boss, family and friends. it's very reassuring to me that almost all of you mentioned that you are doing this for yourselves.

          do you need your assignment, emma? let me see, it's 10:30ish pm for you. i think i can post tomorrows assigment. watch for the new thread!

              5. How important to me is losing weight?: Right now losing weight is the MOST important thing to me (well next to family of course). It all happened so quick. I was never out of shape, never overweight ... and then came switzerland... long story... i have never been the same. Years have passed and I haven't made a dent in my weight. I am going to change that. I am focused on it...and I WILL do it!

                On a physical basis, I have nice eyes and lips, and a big butt - which i love!! I love my "tramp stamp" too I consider myself to be a good friend, i ensure i'm always there when i'm needed no matter what the reason, I'm trustworthy and i'm a hard worker.

                2. List the positive effects Atkins WOE has had on you. Post this list here and in your personal journal.

                Atkins has of course made me shop more hehe!! i have to buy smaller clothes! which is always great! it has helped my arthritis to an extent which has made my life easier to live. Its made me more confident in myself, i can walk with my head held high and be proud of how i look.

                3. List 3 negative things about you and a course of action you could take to turn those negatives into postitives. Again, this list should be posted here and in your journal.

                I am always late - Atkins makes me sleep less, therefore i'm excited that the future holds for me to be an early riser and be on time for work!

                My stomach is my worst feature - Atkins will help me rectify that and be proud of it

                My skin is extremely dry, i vow to spend more time on skin care, though it has already improved slightly because of this WOE

                  STRENGTHS--humorous, dedicated, responsible, creative, honest, intelligent, independent, charismatic.
                  BEST FEATURES--eyes, hair, legs, butt!

                  POSITIVE HEALTH EFFECTS--decreased risk of diabetes, NO migraines, better cardiovascular health, more lean muscle, less fat, complete hydration, complete nourishment, lower BMI, lower body fat %, no blood sugar-related mood swings or cravings.

                  POSITIVE SOCIAL EFFECTS--increased extroversion, increased confidence, increased self-esteem, decreased inhibitions, more positive self-awareness, more pride in appearance.

                  POSITIVE PERSONAL EFFECTS--better intimate relations, pride in appearance, more self-worth.

                  NEGATIVITY #1--I am impatient with/condescending towards those who do not have the same standards as I have. I need to remember that each person has different goals, different interests, different stresses, and that not everybody thinks exactly the way I do--and that's a GOOD thing. Patience is the key, as well as being supportive of others, not if they did what I would do, but if they did what THEY could do. It is good to have high standards, but my high standards should HELP, not HINDER others.

                  NEGATIVITY #2--I have a hard time taking my own advice. I tell others on here not to freak out if they don't lose weight for a week, or that going up in carbs is nothing to be afraid of, yet I suffer from these same fears and I ALWAYS forget the advice I give others. I need to take a deep breath when something like that happens and think rationally. I'm very quick to "suppose" things.

                  NEGATIVITY #3--I am very stubborn. I've suffered from this my whole life! I am stubborn in the fact that I do not shy away from confrontation (if I believe in my heart that I am right) and I am not afraid to stand my ground and state my opinion. Much of the time this is actually a positive...it's just that sometimes I don't know when to avoid confrontation and let sleeping dogs lie. I need to ask myself, "Is this a life and death situation, or can I let this one slide?"

                    1. Make a list of things that you view as positive about yourself.

                    I have good hair, good skin and good teeth. I've just realised that I could be describing a horse I'm not very good at this self compliments stuff. I'm blessed with long legs that are shapely despite weight gain. I have been told that my eyes are my prettiest feature.
                    I'm a loyal and loving friend and family member and can be relied upon 100%. In fact my family and friends are the most important things in my life. I'm non judgemental, trustworthy and good fun. Phew

                    2. List the positive effects Atkins WOE has had on you. Post this list here and in your personal journal.

                    This is much easier. The most important thing to me is that I've now regained control of my life. I have more energy, I sleep better, my thighs do not rub together uncomfortably anymore, my clothes fit better, I feel sexier, I feel happier.

                    1. I often forget to put my needs first, placing those of my bf and family & friends before my own, then feeling hurt when my needs are ignored

                    I must start to place my needs in equal importance to that of others. I pledge that I will start this immediately.

                    2. When I am upset I keep it bottled up and do not share with others.

                    I cannot expect others to guess whats wrong with me, so I must talk and open up when necessary, give them the chance to listen and maybe help.

                        1. I printed little contracts and taped at least 1 in each room in the most visible spot.

                        2. I have started a journal. I have never been much of a journal writer so it won't be much, but something is better than nothing.

                        3. I plan to at least 4 days of exercise, but I am definitly trying for daily.

                        4. Contract signed, printed, and hung on fridge!

                        5. How important is it to lose weight? For me, to date, there have not been health issues. I want to lose weight to definitly prevent this in the future. Losing weight for me right now is a comfort thing. Not being self-conscious of what I wear or what I am doing. It would be nice to not think..I hope I don't break it if I sit on it. I hope I can fit comfortably in the seat. I hope I can still talk after walking up the hill or up the stairs.

                          TUESDAY'S ASSIGNMENT:

                          1. Make a list of things that you view as positive about yourself.

                          - I like my hair most of the time and look pretty good for my age.
                          - I am a very dependable employee for my niece at her boutique.
                          - I give my best and am given my husband's best in our relationship,
                          which makes for a very loving and special marriage.

                          2. List the positive effects Atkins WOE has had on you.

                          - It works! From my first start on Atkins, I have lost 58 pounds so far.
                          It's true that I got derailed at one point and have had to lose 32 of
                          those pounds twice, but I only have 2 more pounds to "re-lose", and I
                          will be in new territory again... going lower than I have since about 9th
                          grade for my goal.
                          - I have more energy.
                          - I drink a lot of water.
                          - I eat healthy foods. I am especially proud of the amount of vegetables
                          that I eat everyday. I never thought I would enjoy pumpkin, jicama,
                          bell peppers, turnips, and spaghetti squash. I love the amount of fiber
                          I am getting. (and the lack of *potty* problems that comes with it )

                          3. List 3 negative things about you and a course of action you could take to turn those negatives into postitives.

                          - I suffer from road rage. I just have a low tolerance for stupidity
                          on the road. I need to realize that my anger does not make them drive
                          any better and it agitates me. I need to catch myself, take a deep
                          breath, and just drive defensively.

                          - I hate housework. I let it go longer than I should.
                          I need to do a little bit of it everyday, so it doesn't get so out of
                          hand and overwhelming. I will make a list of a different "chore" for
                          each day of the week to give myself some structure. Yikes, this will
                          take some discipline!

                          - I am not doing as much exercise as I would like to. I am good about
                          walking, riding my bicycle, and doing my daily crunches... but I am
                          seriously lame when it comes to resistance/strength training. Why have
                          I let it go, when I know that it can work miracles? I just haven't been
                          consistent with it at home, and am seriously considering a membership
                          at the YMCA. I can't do machines/weights with my legs, but there are
                          tons that I could do with my upper body, and that is where I need it the
                          most anyway. And I am also cleared to do Pilates, so I am committing
                          to do 3 days of Pilates per week at home now.

                              I just posted something similar in another thread!
                              *No more fatigue
                              *No more mood swings
                              *No more heartburn
                              *No more IBS
                              *No more sugar cravings
                              *No more aches and pains, other than from exercise
                              *No more Glucophage!!!
                              I am much more fun to be around, I think, now that I am not so tired or cranky anymore! I am also not as obsessed with food as I used to be.

                              1) If I make a mistake, I am too hard on myself. I need to be more understanding, forgive myself and move on.
                              2) I sometime have trouble with taking constructive criticism. I need to understand that constructive criticism is not meant to a personal insult but to help me improve.
                              3) I don't like confrontation. This sometimes allows people to treat me in ways I don't deserve. I need to be assertive without being aggressive. When people say or do things that bother me, I need to let them know without being rude or argumentative.

                                I have a nice smile, I'm funny, I'm good at my job, and I have great hair.

                                I'm thinner which helps my self image. I feel better and I am healthier. I no longer feel like food controls me, instead I am the one in control of food and myself.

                                *I procrastinate- I will try harder to do today what should be done today and not put it off until tomorrow.
                                * I am impatient- I will not expect myself or others to meet unattainable standards and goals. I will try to stay postive when my weightloss is not as swift as I'd like it to be.
                                * I am too critical- I will keep reminding myself how far I have come and not how far I must go. I will encourage others and keep a positive outlook.
