  • Re: I Am Worth It Challenge II

    · Why are you here at the ADBB? I am here at ADBB to get, as well as give, emotional support as I make this long-awaited, improved health-seeking journey.

    · Why are you doing Atkins? I am doing Atkins to lose weight, to improve my overall wellbeing - decrease the pressure of the arthritis in my spine, and to get out of the obese category (on the BMI chart).

    ·
    What does the word “commitment” mean to you? The word "commitment" means (to me) making a promise (give your word) to follow through with something.

    “Commitment is what transforms the promise into reality. It is the words that speak boldly of your intentions and the actions which speak louder than
    words. It is making the time when there is none. It means coming through time after time, year after year. Commitment is the stuff character is made of; the power to change the face of things. It is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism”

    MY COMMENTS on how the above passage applies to me: I will be committed to making positive changes within myself by restructuring the way that I eat and the foods that I eat. The reality will be a healthy weight and improved health. By committing to this challenge I have boldly let everyone know that I am willing to do what it takes to achieve my goals. Preparation and planning (cooking food the night before, keeping healthy snacks on hand, taking my lunch and snacks to work) have helped me to achieve my goals thus far. By sticking to plan I have lost 1/3 of the weight I need to reach goal. I WILL lose the other 69 pounds by staying committed.

      I’m Committed! Oh, Really?
      Homework/Board Work
      1. Copy/paste the Challengers Commitment into your Journal either in Journal Chats or Journal Stats or write it into your personal journal. Will do in a minute

      2. Copy and paste the following questions in this thread and then answer. You may also place this in your journal but it is not a requirement.

      · Why are you here at the ADBB? I need the support and accountability, friendship and great ideas I get here to continue to succeed in changing my bad habits and developing a healthy way of eating.

      · Why are you doing Atkins? Atkins is the only WOE that works to help me lose weight and also feel good. I have discovered food intolerances and realize I am a carb addict--especially with chocolate.

      · What does the word “commitment” mean to you? Following through on a promise, or dedicating yourself to a goal.

      3. Find a quote concerning commitment and share it in this thread.
      "Unless commitment is made, there are only promises and hopes...but no plans." Peter Drucker

      4. Comment on the following quote:
      “Commitment is what transforms the promise into reality. It is the words that speak boldly of your intentions and the actions which speak louder than
      words. It is making the time when there is none. It means coming through time after time, year after year. Commitment is the stuff character is made of; the power to change the face of things. It is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism” Commitment means doing more than talking about or dreaming about what you want. Commitment is the everyday, hard work it takes to achieve the goal. It doesn't mean there won't be setbacks or problems--anything worth having is generally going to be difficult. It means keeping on trying when it's not easy or when you have days when you just don't want to do it. It's making your goal a priority with your time and your effort. Change is not easy for me--I really hate change. In my mind change generally means loss. However, change can also mean gains--in strength, in life circumstances, and in the case of Atkins, health. Attitude is so important to commitment. When my attitude gets less than pleasing, my commitment wavers. I like the "daily triumph" bit. We have no control over tomorrow, and yesterday is done--for good or bad. We only have control over today. We can either hold on to our promise to ourselves and each other and stay strong, or we can say "to heck with it, I'll never make it, I quit."
      5. Make a list of synonyms for the word “commitment“. Put this list in your journal.Obligation, burden, duty

        ~~~~ CHALLENGERS COMMITMENT ~~~~
        I promise to look honestly at myself and my woe.
        I agree to do my best every day.
        I am dedicated to making my health a priority.
        I will be committed to my challenges
        Why are you here at the ADBB?
        Why are you doing Atkins?
        What does the word “commitment” mean to you?
        I am involved with the ADBB because I need the support and encouragement that it offers. I’ve tried the ‘dieting’ scene for over 40 years and I can’t do this alone. I have found the best way to help myself is to help others and share in their success. This gives me strength and commitment to keep improving my own actions and make plans to succeed.
        I’m doing Atkins because I feel good when I’m doing low-carb, I love the support group here at the ADBB, which no other weight loss program has to offer. I’ve found that it is a program that I can stick to without hunger and feeling deprived as I did with other programs.
        Commitment is the strength that comes from within when you finally make a conscious decision to do something and regardless of anything or anybody….you put 100% of your actions and thoughts into making it happen
        ,
        The achievement of your goal is assured the moment you commit yourself to it.
        Author: Mack R. Douglas. (Author and motivational speaker)
        Although there are a lot of synomons for commitment, my favorite two are promise and pledge. My commitment to myself is a promise/ pledge to do it. Not think about it, not whine and make up excuses for why it is hard to do -- but to make a promise to make the necessary changes and set my mind to making it happen.
          · Why are you here at the ADBB? I am here because I needed to make a change in the way I care for myself. I enjoy the support here at ADBB and I also benefit from the wisdom of others.
          · Why are you doing Atkins? I had tried everything I knew to lose weight. A friend of mine did Atkins and she looked wonderful. I thought well give it a try. So here I am.
          · What does the word “commitment” mean to you? Commitment to me means to obligate, promise or pledge. A commitment is a work in progress. A commitment requires you to act or do something to achieve an end result.
            Commitment is a work in progress. You must decide to take the necessary actions to achieve the goal of your commitment. You must find the time in your busy day every day regardless of whatever you have going on. You will find if you can achieve this daily dedication, you will meet your goal.
                I agree with it. I have nothing to add to it. Commitment and Itegrity are what seperates those who give Atkins a try and those that actually succeed on this WOE.
                      · Why are you here at the ADBB? I am here because I am committed to eating low carb as a WOL. I found this board because in the real world, too many people don’t understand how we eat, therefore there’s no point in trying to defend myself. I prefer to hang around with like minded people on the same quest as I am. I am experienced in the Atkins methods and giving back to the people at ADBB has become part of who I am
                      · Why are you doing Atkins Atkins is a healthy way to eat. I feel energetic eating this way. My skin has never looked better than when I eat this way. I know I am healthy and eating whole, fresh foods that are beneficial for my body
                      · What does the word “commitment” mean to you? Jimmie and I have discussed this word on numerous occasions. Years ago I heard a speaker talk about this word. I realized that this is how I chose to live my life. To me, fulfilling a commitment is one of the most important things we can do. For one, it lets others know that we are trustworthy. I think that there is no excuse when we’ve made a commitment (except, of course a real emergency). If we are unable to fulfill it, the commitment should not be made in the first place. Because to make a commitment means to follow it through
                      · 3. Find a quote concerning commitment and share it in this thread.
                      I like this question and I’m going to find a few
                      “An ounce of performance is worth pounds of promises” – Mae West
                      "The three great essentials to achieve anything worth while are, first, hard work; second, stick-to-itiveness; third, common sense." – Thomas Edison
                      “Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master. For this reason mastery demands all of a person." – Albert Einstein
                      It takes a deep commitment to change and an even deeper commitment to grow” – Ralph Ellison
                      “Commitment is what transforms the promise into reality. It is the words that speak boldly of your intentions and the actions which speak louder than
                      I really love this quote. I think the world is missing people of character. I like that a few of you have committed to the challenge, even though you’re busy. That shows character. When I think of all of the people that will cross my path in my lifetime, I live my life knowing that I am a person of character. When I make a commitment, I make a commitment
                        that is exactly what you have done! you've told every other challenger, the other members and anyone lurking that you have committed to make this work for you!
                          · Why are you here at the ADBB?
                          I come to ADBB for the sense of belonging~~the sense of community. ADBB has given me knowledge, support, friendship & laughter. ADBB members do not judge me~~they understand the journey that I am on. ABDD is also a place I can pay it forward by being supportive.
                          Being able to come to ADBB daily helps me in my commitment to myself in my journey to physical/emotional/spiritual health.
                          · Why are you doing Atkins?
                          I am a carbohydrate addict. This WOE/WOL gives me such mental clarity & that comes from no longer being in a carb induced daze. Being in this clearer stat of mind I'm slowly beginning to deal with emotional issues that contribute to my weight gain. Slowly the protective layer of fat is shedding!
                          · What does the word “commitment” mean to you?
                          making a pledge to someone or something which requires me to give it my all in order to fullfil that pledge
                          To me this is an outstanding description of what commitment is. Never giving up, persistance, hard work, & the satisfaction of accomplishment!!! Excellent quote Jimmie!
                            · Why are you here at the ADBB? I need the support and accountability, friendship and great ideas I get here to continue to succeed in changing my bad habits and developing a healthy way of eating.
                            · Why are you doing Atkins? Atkins is the only WOE that works to help me lose weight and also feel good. I have discovered food intolerances and realize I am a carb addict--especially with chocolate.
                            · What does the word “commitment” mean to you? Following through on a promise, or dedicating yourself to a goal.
Commitment is the stuff character is made of; the power to change the face of things. It is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism” Commitment means doing more than talking about or dreaming about what you want. Commitment is the everyday, hard work it takes to achieve the goal. It doesn't mean there won't be setbacks or problems--anything worth having is generally going to be difficult. It means keeping on trying when it's not easy or when you have days when you just don't want to do it. It's making your goal a priority with your time and your effort. Change is not easy for me--I really hate change. In my mind change generally means loss. However, change can also mean gains--in strength, in life circumstances, and in the case of Atkins, health. Attitude is so important to commitment. When my attitude gets less than pleasing, my commitment wavers. I like the "daily triumph" bit. We have no control over tomorrow, and yesterday is done--for good or bad. We only have control over today. We can either hold on to our promise to ourselves and each other and stay strong, or we can say "to heck with it, I'll never make it, I quit."
                            i wonder if you would have ever known about your food intolerances had you not done atkins?
                            i know becky loves seeing the word "plan" in the quote you chose! that's going to come up in a later assigment. did you read my notes?
                            i really like your comment on the quote. well done! remember when dr. atkins spoke to us about caving with a bite of something or a day off plan and stopping it right there and not letting the cheat give us permission to ditch everything and binge for days afterwards? this is a commitment, dedication issue. you've addressed this quite nicely. maybe one day has gotten screwed up but do not let that give you (us) permission to derail the journey for weeks on end.
                              ain't this the truth!
                              I’m doing Atkins because I feel good when I’m doing low-carb, I love the support group here at the ADBB, which no other weight loss program has to offer. I’ve found that it is a program that I can stick to without hunger and feeling deprived as I did with other programs.
                              i concur. this same idea will be repeated by many and i'll be one of them.
                              Commitment is the strength that comes from within when you finally make a conscious decision to do something and regardless of anything or anybody….you put 100% of your actions and thoughts into making it happen,
                              The achievement of your goal is assured the moment you commit yourself to it.
                              Although there are a lot of synomons for commitment, my favorite two are promise and pledge. My commitment to myself is a promise/ pledge to do it. Not think about it, not whine and make up excuses for why it is hard to do -- but to make a promise to make the necessary changes and set my mind to making it happen.
                              yeah, i like "pledge", too.
