    · Why are you doing Atkins?
Because I have tried other diets and I usually get tired really quickly. Atkins has made me learn how to cook and Its changing my life for the better.

    · What does the word “commitment” mean to you?
It means devotion but with a lot of reponsability....in order to reach a goal.
i hope you are like a sponge and just soak up so much that you breeze your way into a healthy you, both from the phyical side of things and the mental.
responsiblity is a very good word. and it starts with us, doesn't it?

    3. Find a quote concerning commitment and share it in this thread.
Individual commitment to a group effort -- that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.
    by Vince Lombardi

    4. Comment on the following quote:
“Commitment is what transforms the promise into reality. It is the words that speak boldly of your intentions and the actions which speak louder than
words. It is making the time when there is none. It means coming through time after time, year after year. Commitment is the stuff character is made of; the power to change the face of things. It is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism”

I think this quote is so deep in meaning, I like the fact that it points that even with all the disadvantages in life..people can still great things just by putting that effort to work!
like not letting anything stand in the way of doing our best? i may not be able to do what you do, and you may not be able to do what becky does, but we can do what we can do, rights?

    5. Make a list of synonyms for the word “commitment“. Put this list in your journal.
    Leadership, obligation, willingness!
i like those! and again we see the word obligation popping up.

      DONE
      2. Copy and paste the following questions in this thread and then answer. You may also place this in your journal but it is not a requirement.

      · Why are you here at the ADBB?
      Support, friendship, tips and motivation

      · Why are you doing Atkins?
To better my quality of life both mentally and physically

      · What does the word “commitment” mean to you?
An agreement/contract/devotion to see something through to the end.

i'm happy to see you mention both mentally and physically. this is something that goes hand in hand.
nice choice of words for what commitment means to you.

      3. Find a quote concerning commitment and share it in this thread.
“There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when circumstance permit. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.”
      Unknown

NICELY SAID whoever it belongs too! commitment isn't always fun is it? but can be so rewarding when the commitment is accomplished.

      4. Comment on the following quote:

I agree with it. I have nothing to add to it. Commitment and Itegrity are what seperates those who give Atkins a try and those that actually succeed on this WOE.

very good thought! sounds like a siggy tag line to me!

        · Why are you here at the ADBB? I am here because I am committed to eating low carb as a WOL. I found this board because in the real world, too many people don’t understand how we eat, therefore there’s no point in trying to defend myself. I prefer to hang around with like minded people on the same quest as I am. I am experienced in the Atkins methods and giving back to the people at ADBB has become part of who I am
and i see you paying it forward day in and day out.

        · Why are you doing Atkins Atkins is a healthy way to eat. I feel energetic eating this way. My skin has never looked better than when I eat this way. I know I am healthy and eating whole, fresh foods that are beneficial for my body

        · What does the word “commitment” mean to you? Jimmie and I have discussed this word on numerous occasions. Years ago I heard a speaker talk about this word. I realized that this is how I chose to live my life. To me, fulfilling a commitment is one of the most important things we can do. For one, it lets others know that we are trustworthy. I think that there is no excuse when we’ve made a commitment (except, of course a real emergency). If we are unable to fulfill it, the commitment should not be made in the first place. Because to make a commitment means to follow it through
        i've bolded the trustworthy.

        · 3. Find a quote concerning commitment and share it in this thread.
I like this question and I’m going to find a few
“An ounce of performance is worth pounds of promises” – Mae West

"The three great essentials to achieve anything worth while are, first, hard work; second, stick-to-itiveness; third, common sense." – Thomas Edison

“Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master. For this reason mastery demands all of a person." – Albert Einstein

It takes a deep commitment to change and an even deeper commitment to grow” – Ralph Ellison
mae west said a good thing! and i like Edisons "stick-to-itveness", we'll see that word (or fasimille) show up again.
and mr. ellison gives some deep thought to the word, doesn't he?

        4. Comment on the following quote:
“Commitment is what transforms the promise into reality. It is the words that speak boldly of your intentions and the actions which speak louder than

I really love this quote. I think the world is missing people of character. I like that a few of you have committed to the challenge, even though you’re busy. That shows character. When I think of all of the people that will cross my path in my lifetime, I live my life knowing that I am a person of character. When I make a commitment, I make a commitment

        5. Make a list of synonyms for the word “commitment“. Put this list in your journal.

        Attentiveness
        Dedication
        Resolution
        Trust
Gentlemen’s Agreement – isn’t that sexist? How bout Agreement?
        Pact
        Promise
        Pledge
        Responsibility

i think we understand "Gentlemsn's Agreement. there will be reference to this later on, also.
        good job.

            I’m Committed! Oh, Really?

            1. Copy/paste the Challengers Commitment into your Journal either in Journal Chats or Journal Stats or write it into your personal journal.

            DONE

            2. Copy and paste the following questions in this thread and then answer. You may also place this in your journal but it is not a requirement.

            · Why are you here at the ADBB?
this has changed since july 2004. at first it was to see what this board was all about. i wanted information that the board seemed to provide. i quickly made cyber buds with a few people and quite honestly, i was having fun. i was asked to be Journals Hostess and i loved meeting and greeting, getting to know everyone. i was needed and i filled a gap the board was experiencing.

why stick around? because of my needs and YOU. like me or not, agree or not, i want to see YOU reaching those mini goals, making and keeping those commitments to challenges, your woe and to yourself.
i feel like i “owe” it to stay. i was helped and now i do my best to pass that on, to pay it forward. i’ve found a niche dealing with challenges and again, i know i am filling a gap that the board was experiencing.

it is no secret that i have not made friends since i moved and i‘ve had some rough times with depression. my cyber buds are “family”. they got me though those times. we’ve prayed together, laughed together and at each other.

i truly get a lift and smile on my face when someone conquers a crave, makes a goal, earns an award or whatever it is they did that progresses them along this journey. i like the fun the board provides, hate the rifts but to see someone “get it” is priceless.

            · Why are you doing Atkins?
i am not a yo-yo dieter, never have been. atkins proved itself to me back in 1975 . it was easy. a “diet” that let me eat, lose weight and feel better was the way to go. i've sometimes questioned myself as to the lifetime commitment of atkins, but as days and years go by, as i get older, i see how my bones are not what they were at 25, my weight gains can be so much harder to lose as i age. i don’t want to be an obese, diabetic, walking heart attack burden to my kids. it will suffice to say that a lifetime of atkins is .. well, it’s life! a lifetime, a life way, a way of life and living healthy.

            · What does the word “commitment” mean to you?
never give up, never give in. fight for what’s worth it. as this woe goes, that would be me.

            3. Find a quote concerning commitment and share it in this thread.

i've decided on these two but it was hard to narrow things down. i've included more in my stats journal.

A successful life doesn’t require that we’ve done the best, but that we’ve done our best.
            H. Jackson Brown
i like that just the changing of one word, “the” to “our” makes such a huge difference in that quote.

Do what you can, with what you have, where you are. Theodore Roosevelt:
It is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism”
say what you mean and mean what you say.
don’t just say it, do it.
don’t just tell me, show me.
            put your words into action.
it use to be that a man’s word was his bond. i know this can still be true today but i think it is much harder to find.

            5. Make a list of synonyms for the word “commitment“. Put this list in your journal.

Being able to come to ADBB daily helps me in my commitment to myself in my journey to physical/emotional/spiritual health.

is this the first mention of spiritual health in the answers? i think so! good job for including that. isn't it nice to know that everyone here has been on the same road? we may be at different places along the journey but we are traveling the same path.

              · Why are you doing Atkins?

I am a carbohydrate addict. This WOE/WOL gives me such mental clarity & that comes from no longer being in a carb induced daze. Being in this clearer stat of mind I'm slowly beginning to deal with emotional issues that contribute to my weight gain. Slowly the protective layer of fat is shedding!

Here's mine...I'll be back late tonight to read through and read folks comments. From what I've glanced at already, I'm loving everyone's thoughts. It's so great!

                  · Why are you here at the ADBB?
I first stumbled upon the board via the google way when I was looking for weightloss inspiration...there's a lot of great people who give their time and energy in supporting others here that you won't find anywhere else.

                  · Why are you doing Atkins?
After trying a number of different ways of losing weight, I found Atkins to be the most natural and healthy way of losing weight for my body.

                  · What does the word “commitment” mean to you?
                  Commitment means determination.

                  3. Find a quote concerning commitment and share it in this thread.
This is a life style, not a race.

“Commitment is what transforms the promise into reality. It is the words that speak boldly of your intentions and the actions which speak louder than

Making time when there is none hits me big time. I live a life that I have to constantly make time to do what I want to do instead of what I have to do. For me to commit to making changes in my life, body, and spirit, I have to focus on the reality of the promise I made to myself...make time for me.

i keep asking this not just because it's a part of the challenge but i want y'all to be able to reference it when you need to. to firmly plant it in your journal is a commitment act in itself.

                    · Why are you doing Atkins?
----Im doing Atkins because I was tired of feeling hungry all the time with other diets, some of my friends have done Atkins and tried to get me to do Atkins as well, but I always poo-pood the idea because I thought I couldnt live without potatoes and rice and pasta-------turns out I was wrong.

                    · What does the word “commitment” mean to you?
----Commitment is a promise, contract or agreement that as long as both sides keep their end is binding and unbreakable.

having others of like mind, which has already been commented on, is such a strength. i'm glad you found it here.
your description of commitment is very intense. it's not a word to be taken lightly is it?

                    3. Find a quote concerning commitment and share it in this thread.

words. It is making the time when there is none. It means coming through time after time, year after year. Commitment is the stuff character is made of; the power to change the face of things. It is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism”
----My daddy always said "a man is only as good as his word" if you give your word or promise to something you had better keep it cause it lets the world know what kind of person you are.

i'm seeing this idea reflected in several posts. your daddy related a wise thing to you.

Suga, I like what you said about your daddy--"a man is only as good as his word." That's the way I was taught, too. My dad could do business anywhere in town with only a handshake--that included banks and car dealers. Yes, paperwork would eventually get signed, but they knew he could be trusted if he agreed to something.

He taught me that you always keep your word.

I also remember something about the difference between commitment and dedication.

The chicken is dedicated by laying her eggs daily. The pig is committed when she provides bacon.

You have to put it all on the line.

Making time when there is none hits me big time. I live a life that I have to constantly make time to do what I want to do instead of what I have to do. For me to commit to making changes in my life, body, and spirit, I have to focus on the reality of the promise I made to myself...make time for me.

we've had such a tendency to not focus on self for so long. one of the reasons, i suppose, we all put on weight in the first place.
we have to rethink and come to realize that it's okay to make the time for ourselves. our bodies, our minds, our souls need it.
we find time to shop and play. why not to eat according to plan and exercise? good thoughts, apple.
