    DRINK UP! WATER CHALLENGE
    ~~~~~

    Many of us don't get enough water for whatever reason. We get busy, we substitute, we just plain forget. In colder weather, it gets increasingly hard to reach for the water glass instead of a hot drink.

    There are several calculations for determining just how much water one should drink per day.

    You must drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of pure water daily. This can be filtered, mineral or spring water (not seltzer).


    Many others also use the 64 oz plus 8 oz per 25 pounds you wish to lose.

    In this challenge, you will be committing to drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces. Now before you go all wet on me, do some figuring and you just might find out the amounts you come up with are very doable.
    Please see the links at the end of this post for more information using this simple calculation and other useful links concerning water consumption.

    ~~~~ RULES OF THE CHALLENGE ~~~~
    • SIGN UP IN THIS THREAD NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 10. STATE YOUR WEIGHT and the amount of ounces you will be committing to using the following.......
    • COMMIT TO DRINKING 1/2 YOUR CURRENT BODY WEIGHT IN OUNCES PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS A 128 OUNCE CAP FOR THIS CHALLENGE.
    • DAILY POSTING OF WATER IS REQUIRED.
    • Late sign-ups will be taken but will not be eligible for the award.

    Here's some helpful hints
    • Space out your water consumption trying not to overload and catch up in the late hours of the day.
    • Keep track of the amounts by using measured containers. For example, 1/2 gallon or 1 gallon milk cartons or other type of pitcher or drinking bottled water in 16 or 20 ounce marked containers.
    • measurements:
      pint = 16 oz.
      quart = 32 oz.
      1/2 gallon = 64 oz.
      gallon = 128 oz

      weight (176)
      1/2 body weight in water is 88 ounces

      As a matter of fact I will commit to 120 oz at the minimum

          alright alright ill go for it. Let me just say this will be HARD for me! I hate water! I hardly ever drank much water before atkins but if i do this ill stick to it.. but man i gotta drink alot of freakin water.

              Jimmie asked me to join here in a challenge so I am going to do it. Half my current weight in ounces would be 140 ounces each day. Goodness, I will float away, but I can do it.

                  I will give it a try , i wish it was summer cause i drink more water but I will try to do this it might be fun !

                    Count me in. Half of my body weight is 188 oz. Yeesh! I know I can drink that much liquid in a day because of the soda addiction that I had so here's to more water!

                      Well since water is the only thing I'm drinking while on Atkins this'll be no problem!

                      My current weight is 124 which would put me at 62 oz. of water per day. No sweat!

                      Now let's just hope I remember to check in everyday.

                        Before you consume more than 8-12 8oz glasses per day, I recommend you read up on hypoatraemia, otherwise known as water intoxification. Google it or read the articles posted here:

                        188oz would be 23.5 eight ounce glasses of water. Are you sure you want to commit to drinking that much? Why? Do you think your body will somehow benefit by drinking double or triple the recommended amount?

                            Sure - I am in. Current weight is 144, so that puts me at 72oz day (or 5 bottles of water). I drink 3 bottles at the gym every day, so I will have no problem.
