  • 4th Semi Annual Veggie Challenge

    HAVE YOU BEEN EATING YOUR VEGGIES?





    VEGGIE CHALLENGERS UNITE!!!!
    THIS IS ANOTHER BOARDWIDE CHALLENGE!




    This challenge is for any Member of the ADBB, from Induction to Maintenance. The purpose is get us out of our habit of depending on our great cheeses and hamburgers, the added grains and dairy, and start being more diligent about adding those all important, vitamin fortified, vegetables!




    THIS IS A 5 DAY CHALLENGE
    NOVEMBER 10th THROUGH NOVEMBER 14th




    Here are the particulars:
    First, you have to sign up in this thread! You must state what rung/phase you are on: Induction, OWL or Maintenance. You must be willing to chart your veggie NET carbs for the 5 days of the challenge, and report them daily. Also, you are to try a new veggie that you have never eaten before. Sign up will start on Monday, November 3rd and run through Sunday, November 9th. NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO SIGN UP AFTER NOVEMBER 9th! This award is earned by meeting your minimum EACH DAY, so you will not be able to join late.

    If you are doing Induction, your challenge is to eat a minimum of 12 NET carbs of veggies each day during the challenge.
    If you are in any phase of OWL, your challenge is to eat a minimum of 17 NET carbs of veggies each day during the challenge.
    If you are on Maintenance, your challenge is to eat a minimum of 22 NET carbs of veggies each day during the challenge.

    Feel free to post the veggie pushing old man graphic in your signature to signify that you are a Veggie Challenger. After you've completed your veggie eating ways, with success, you'll be able to trade the old guy for a really cool award - a head of cauliflower!


    WHAT A DEAL!



    Now, here's some helpful hints:
    • If you are tracking your foods already in a fitday or similar type of program, keep that up and pay particular attention to how many NET carbs of veggies you are getting. If you don't have an account, YOU CAN SET ONE UP or make sure to log on a piece of paper or in your ADBB JOURNAL STATS journal the amount of veggie NET carbs you are eating. Whichever way you choose to keep track, please make sure to use this thread on a daily basis to report your total veggie NET carbs for the day.
    • Don't wait till the end of day and try to hit the mark in all one sitting. Spread those veggie carbs throughout the day.
    • The following links will help you with the numbers.








    You can also find the Induction list of vegetables on
    page 125 and 126 of the DANDR.




    For those of you who are already great at getting in your veggies, and don't think that there any veggies you haven't tried yet, try to come up with a new way to have a tried and true favorite... get creative!

        I want in... I am not sure about a new veggie tho... or a new way to prepare an old veggie. I'm not very creative.

          I'm on OWL, so committing to 17 g per day. I've been a vegetarian for years before starting Atkins, so I'm not sure if there is veggie on that list I haven't tried. But I'll figure out something...

              duh moment for me or because it was late when we were posting our stuff.............. sorry i failed to say OWL, NO LESS THAN 17 NET CARBS.
              i'm not so much doing maintenance at the moment.

                  Good Morning, Fellow Challengers!

                  Yay, what a great way to start my day!! It's exciting to see so many responses already.

                  Lyssie and Georgiana, don't worry - I'm betting that between all of us here, we will be able to come up with a different way to prepare something. I'm sure of it!

                  Glenda, it's great to see a returning veteren here. You always rock this challenge, so it will be good to have you aboard.

                  Jimmie, I've got you down for OWL - thanks! I think that I'll be entering as OWL, too... still thinking about that. I've been spinning out of control lately, and will be very stict this week. I'm planning on being back to at least OWL levels by the start of the challenge.

                  blueberrylady, it is a pleasure to have you join us.

                  I'll work on a formal roster this evening after I get home from work. What a great group so far! I'm jazzed!

                      Mmmm... I saw some awesome fresh asparagus in the store today. I didn't get any though, because I need to eat the things I already have in the fridge first. Now I have motivation to do that - so I can get some fresh, tender asparagus. Up until last year, you couldn't have paid me to try it. Once I finally made up my mind that I was serious about doing Atkins correctly, I did try it, and now I love it.

                            LOL! Yes, thanks Lyssie!! It looked OK to me, too. I've just checked my "pen and paper" list, and had Georgiana's name there, but made an error when typing.
