    Hey All

I just wanted to give a little encouragement towards quitting smoking - I quit on December 10. 2003 - It's been tough and quite a few pounds gained which is why I have decided to try the Atkins diet.

The first week or so - your thoughts are consumed by smoking, but trust me it gets easier. I still have stong urges, but they are now few and far between. Once you get past the intital quitting, its amazing how easy it is to live without it.

Now that I have beat the smoking, I have to beat the weight!

Good luck to everyone quitting - it really is worth it even though you may be miserable for the first little while.

Tommy, before you go and pick up the patch - have you looked into Zyban? It works!

I am still going strong smoke free!!!! I do struggle with myself late at night and while I am driving but so far so good.
Don't worry Blue it has taken me 5 tries and so far this is the longest/ last. ( I have found the best time is either when your sick, or on the weekend and sleep/stay in bed as long as you can) providing you don't smoke in your home. Even if you can't quit cut back slowly, it a start

Yeah. It's shaping up to be a banner year.

I am so incredibly glad that I quit smoking a week before I went on induction. No way I would have made it thru both at the same time!!

Hope everyone is having success on both fronts too!!

Pretty quiet on this board. Hope everyone is still not smoking!!

I'm headed into week 3 and switched to 1/2 patches this AM. Three weeks on the 1/2 patches and I'm done.

It's funny that the money I'm saving by not smoking or drinking beer is going straight into the grocery bill for meat. It's a fair trade, but it shattered my illusions of saving money by dropping the vices.

alright all............I am totally ashamed and embarrased for myself. I have lost my mindset and was not an ounce of help or support for any of you on this challange. I apologize .........especially to "the man in blue". I feel I have let EVERYONE down including myself. Oh and yeah I can come up with a million excuses for not doing this....just as I did for 48 years with my weight problem. This is one I have to be 100% honest with.......I am scared to death. I had the mindset, I was 99% there and then things happened. BUT THAT IS NO EXCUSE. I have let nothing get in the way of my weight lose etc. Now.......I am letting EVERYTHING get in the way of this and I am pretty disgusted with my self. Honestly......I need help! I really do. I never could have lost the weight without the help of everyone on this board. And now........I need help with this. I know I need to do what I tell everyone here to do for weight loss. Get motivated! I have to pick up books, surround myself with the "quit smoking" mantra. I will do it. I have too. Everyone in my immediate family smokes and I know I have to be the one to quit and quit successfully so they can to.
Man in blue........how are you doing? Again, I apologize for letting you down.
Tommy.........I feel I have let you down 100%.......but I am going to change that. But notice I have not commited yet......and that is what is making me so mad!!!!
                              CMF........YOU are such an inspiration!!!!!!
                              jerzeegirl..... You TOO!!!!!!
ok......would everyone be so kind as to read this post, pick it apart and kick me in the butt!!!!!!!!!!
and boy......I am so tempted to not post this. But........I am going to!!!!!!
I have ignored it for over 2 weeks.

                                Bren,
Consider this your first butt kicking! LOL!!!

Not really. Quitting smoking is not easy, but neither is losing weight. You CAN do it!!! Why not make it a commitment one day at a time? Each day, first thing in the morning, come in here and post your commitment to not smoke for just today.

                                Best of luck to you!
