  • The Perfect Week Challenge- 7/11-7/17

I think I need a hard & fast challenge to get me back on track. I'm currently in the Thanksgiving challenge, which is great, but too far away, and I didn't hit my goal for the birthday challenge.

I'm only going to do this Challenge for 1 week, starting today, Monday the 11th. Basically I just want to get through one whole week with no cheats, no screw-ups, and no excuses. Anyone is welcome to join!

    My goals:
Drink all my water, everyday (min 64oz., try for 100oz.)
Exercise at least 4 days this week, minimum 30 minutes each time
Stay under my daily carb count (30g)
Do not eat anything from other rungs yet!

I'll check in once a day to report on all 4 goals. Anyone want to join me for the rest of the week?

    1. Drank 90oz. water
    2. Exercised for 2 10 minute segments (this won't count as one of my 4 days)
    3. Had 18 net carbs (4 cups veggies, 2 oz. nuts)
    4. Didn't eat any no-no's!!

So far, so good! I can already feel myself back on track. I have that induction fire again!

      Day Two Report

      1. Drank 64 oz. water
      2. Exercised for 20 minutes in the morning, plus I walked 10,391 steps!
      3. Had 21 net carbs. (4 cups salad, 2 cups coleslaw, yogurt, 4 oz macadamia nuts) I can't believe that's only 21 carbs!
      4. Still eating from the first 3 rungs.. and don't feel like I need anything else!

It's weird... I actually feel less restricted than I did a week ago when I fell off the wagon. I think it's because the guilt isn't there. Instead of thinking, "I probably shouldn't have this", I'm looking at my daily carb count and saying, "Wow, I've got 15 net carbs left. I can totally have this!"

        Day Three Report
        1. Drank 64 oz. water
        2. Didn't exercise at all today. Only walked 6488 steps.
        3. Ate 21 carbs.
        4. Still eating from the first 3 rungs.

I thought the first two days were a fluke, but 3 days in a row my carbs are right around 20. I ate 5 oz. of macadamia nuts and 2 oz. of peanuts today. How am I still eating only 20 net carbs???? My calories are up around 3000, so I definitely don't want to add anything else. Maybe I just need more veggies (today I had 2 cups of coleslaw and 1 cup of broccoli, which still seems like a lot to me.)

          Day Four Report
My perfect week isn't looking so perfect anymore, but I still feel great! I don't want to stress until I see the results after a week.

          1. Only drank 48oz. of water so far. I might have another glass before bedtime.
          2. Didn't exercise again today, but walked 8629 steps.
          3. Ate 37 carbs -- too many!
          4. I failed on this one, ate chinese food. No rice or anything, but I got chicken with mixed vegetables which included carrots (a few slices). The sauce is really the kicker. I looked up a ton of chinese chicken dishes on calorieking.com, so I found one that was in the middle of the road and used that. It was 26 net carbs for the whole container. This could be off by 10-20 carbs in either direction. I've "cheated" with chinese food a few times, and it never really throws me off as much as I'd think it would. If I can eat it successfully, I don't mind doing so once a month. We'll see the results after my not-so-perfect week!

            Day Five Report

            1. Did horrible with the water today. I think I had less than 30oz. total.
            2. Walked 10,331 steps and did 50 crunches (thanks to the Bellyz Be Gone Challenge)
            3. 30 carbs, on the nose!
            4. Nothing from other rungs today. I had ricotta & parmesan from the dairy rung, and 4 oz. peanuts + 1 oz. macadamia nuts.

I was at a new low this morning, 189.5!! This is definitely keeping me on track. Thanks, self! You're welcome.

Re: The Perfect Week Challenge- 7/11-7/17

              End of the week report:

              1. I drank all my water except for 1 or 2 days. What I need to remember is that if I'm going to be "bad" and drink diet coke, I need to drink it in addition to water, not in place of it.
              2. I didn't exercise as much as I wanted to, but I was wearing my pedometer and hit 10K steps a few times (my normal steppage is 3000-4000/day). I also did a few cardio & ab workouts here & there, so it wasn't a total failure.
              3. The carb count is weird. I'm glad I did this challenge, because it made me realize that even though I'm on rung 3 and should be eating near 30 carbs, I often don't even come close to this, even if I am eating from all the rungs.
              4. I ate cherries yesterday (day 7), so I think I'm just going to take this as a sign to move on to another rung. It's peak berry season, so there's no reason I shouldn't be taking advantage of this. Plus, maybe it'll help me stop eating so many nuts.

              Starting weight: 193
              Ending weight: 190
Not bad for being less than perfect!
