I'll admit upfront that I don't even remember what my new year's goal is until I see it in Elsie's thread. Even then, all I see are numbers that don't mean anything. I've never even done the math to figure out how much I need to lose beween now & then.

a)Analyze: Do you see yourself in any of the above numbered statements?
Sadly, none of these apply to me. I say "Sadly" because the reason they don't apply is because I keep cheating and I don't expect the scale to go down.

b)Analyze: How does this affect your overall view of your goal (it helps me, it inhibits me, it does nothing)?
I'm thinking that if I can weigh less on New Years than I weigh today, I'll be happy, even if that's just 1 pound. This is sort of disappointing because I won't really be happy, but that's just my way of justifying how horrible I've been lately.

c)Visualize: How would you encourage someone else going through what you are?
First I'd slap the ding dong out of their hands, then I'd tell them to re-read DANDR, ditch the diet coke, and start practicing what they're preaching.

d)Analyze: What does this tell you about yourself?
That I do as I do, not as I say? I've always been a rebel dieter. If I know what to do, I won't do it. I think I get a high from being bad. This is a whole nother thread.

    e) Plan for success: What is one thing you can do this week to help yourself work towards that goal?
I need to be PREPARED. I've learned this lesson a few times. Having the right foods on hand leads to success, which avoids all of these soul searching questions that I hate! In a way, isn't that the same thing as medicating oneself with food?

Effie-- I don't miss weighing! I think it was just too much stress. This way I'll continue to work hard, because I want the scale to show positive downward movement. But I was weighing too often for my own good. It's just--for me-- become too much of a pain.

I am not going to weigh today due to this weekend drinking very little water. I'll check in next week and I'm sure I'll be down !!

I like that idea, New-Me! Thanks for checking in anyway! Weighing in or not, you're still family! I'm not going to weigh in until November. I've been too addicted to my scale.

              Good Morning Fellow Atkineers!!!

Ok so I fell off the wagon for about a week and ended up gaining about 5 pounds So last Monday I was weighing in at 144 and today I weighed in at 136. So I lost 8 pounds this week 14 pounds lost so far! Can we say whooshie? LOL Anyway I'm happy to be back on track. I not only am losing weight I am also losing some inches. I am down to a 30" waist (wonder what pant size that is?) I know my jeans are really loose and baggy and they are a 14. But another thing I figured out is I also at some point in time lost an inch off my height. I have no idea when that happened. I haven't measured my height in years. But what that means is I need to lose more but I'm sticking with the 115 goal. That's what I was 6 years ago before I got married and I was happy with that. My actual goal will be to get back into a pair of jeans I had from then that I still have. I refused to get rid of them, swearing that I WOULD get back into them and I WILL! Thanks to all of you for your unconditional support.

Re: Mid-Year Resolution Thread for October 9-15th

I need to give up the scale too! I've become entirely too dependant on it. It dictates my mood through the day

I also have a problem I need your help on. Like our friend Andrea, I've run out of food, and money We get paid on Thursday, and I'm going to go buy a membership at Costco. I would like to compile a list of Atkins friendly food that I can buy so this doesn't happen again. I held out as long as I could, I promise, but I was starving myself trying to make the food last until Thursday, and I don't care what diet you are on, starving is a bad thing! Since crossing over I can tell you, the grass is NOT greener. The food does NOT taste as good as I had been dreaming about. I've been keeping it small, and eating less of the higher carb stuff. I am so depressed and feeling like a fraud, but come Friday, I am back on! I've been doing this for 2 days now and have not gained any weight, so I'm really watching it. I'm sorry if I have disappointed anyone. I am going to continue with my exercise schedule, and water consumption.

So back to my original question: What sorts of things should I buy at Costco? I was thinking of picking up a pack of pepperoni, just for snacks.

PS: Ranch Dressing is EVIL, sent me into junkie-like cravings where I would have sold my mother for a Snickers bar!

                  thank you for listening.

Re: Mid-Year Resolution Thread for October 9-15th

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was nice and relaxing. I am finally back down to 207.5 after my water weight gain last week. I can only think it was due to a dramatic increase in exercise that caused me to "hold" water. I did not cheat and did not change anything about my diet that I have been doing since starting this WOE.

                    Now for the homework:

)Analyze: Do you see yourself in any of the above numbered statements?

I see myself in several of the statements. I am also going to hold off on weighing until November 1st. It is becoming upsetting now that I am not seeing the scale move like it was in the beginning. It was not uncommon previously to get up EVERY morning to a .5 or 1 pound weight loss. That is heady stuff, there. Now that it is not moving as fast or at ALL, I can't let it discourage me or frustrate me. My goal is not just a number, but it is also to be healthier. As long as I am eating healthier and exercising and drinking my water, I will be successful. I may not make it to my goal weight by New Years, but I will be healthier for having tried my best to make it.

b)Analyze: How does this affect your overall view of your goal (it helps me, it inhibits me, it does nothing)?

I am not going to put so much pressure on myself to make this goal that I give up. It is easy to put too much pressure on myself, especially when you see on Fitday how much you need to lose per week in order to make goal.

c)Visualize: How would you encourage someone else going through what you are?

I would just encourage everyone to hang in there. We are all on a journey here, called LIFE. We are not perfect and might make bad choices about the foods we eat and we might have a bad month budget-wise because that's LIFE. I want to encourage every one to forgive yourself when we fall down, but get right back on track and on plan and try to learn from whatever mistake we made. Also, we may do everything right and still not lose or maybe even gain. Females, especially, have so many hormonal factors that effect our hunger, moods, emotions and physiologically whether we lose or not. Don't despair! Do the best you can and don't get discouraged. We are in this for the long haul and we will have our ups and downs. I refuse to beat myself up if I do not make this goal I have set.

d)Analyze: What does this tell you about yourself?

That I am human and that even if I think I am doing everything right that there are some things out of my control that influence the movement on the scale. I am on a quest to become healthier and as long as I am doing things to improve my health then I will be more of a winner than just a number on a scale can show.

                    e) Plan for success: What is one thing you can do this week to help yourself work towards that goal?
I am going to go back and look at my Fitday and see what I was eating when I was losing at my best and compare it to my Fitday now and see what the differences are. I may go back to induction for a couple of weeks to try and "shake up" my metabolism. I know I have a very sluggish metabolism and there is NO WAY that I can eat what my BMR says I should be able to eat. YMMV. YOU may be able to do that, but I know I cannot. I am going to continue to exercise this week as I know I will be healthier as a result of it. I will continue to lean on God for my strength and ask for His help in getting healthier.

Hang in there everyone! You all are awesome partners!

                    Tammy

Re: Mid-Year Resolution Thread for October 9-15th

Fancy, we have a Costco membership and I love it. Things I buy regularly are eggs, rotisserie chicken (don't eat the skin as there are some carbs in the seasoning on the skin), organic natural peanut butter, cheese, Kirkland ham (has 0 carbs), organic coffee, butter, half and half, frozen boneless, skinless chicken breasts, pork tenderloin, salmon, avocadoes, tomatoes, fruit for the rest of the family, frozen broccoli spears, frozen green beans, beef tenderloin steaks, ribeye steaks, beef roasts, organic milk for the rest of the family, Listerine breath strips, cream cheese, Kirkland brand albacore tuna and canned chicken breast. That is all I can think of right now. I have found their meats to be VERY high quality. Their spices are also an excellent value.

Costco's store brand, Kirkland products, are excellent. Non-food items that I can highly recommend are Kirkland laundry detergent, fabric softener and paper towels. They are rated as highly as Tide, Downy and Bounty, but are MUCH less expensive. I always buy Charmin toilet paper there too. They frequently send out coupons to be used at Costco only to make things even cheaper. I buy our bath soap, toothpaste, vitamins there too. I think you will be very happy with your membership although you can spend a lot of money initially getting stocked up on everything.

If you have any questions, please let me know and I will try to help you out.

Congratulations to all who have stuck to plan and been rewarded with a weight loss.

And Congratulations to those who didn't lose but stuck to the plan anyway and have not given up!!! You should be so proud of yourself!!

Also a big round of applause and a huge pat on the back to those who can't follow it right now because of budget issues but are not using that as an excuse to eat anything and go carb crazy but are continuing to watch what they eat as best they can. A big step!!!

Chart has been updated and we have a total of 252.4 pounds lost total!
