  • STAC New Year's challenge, Dec 16 - 20

Although I haven't checked in for days, I'm still very much on plan. There are Christmas goodies galore around the house of each family member, but I've not yielded, even once, to temptation. The back pain became increasingly worse and I finally had to go to a doctor for some pain medication. However, it's now begun to really get better, and I started trying to get in some walking, yesterday and today. I won't have done my 150 minutes this week, but at least I can now make a bit of an effort.

Since I can't weigh until I return to Arlington, I have no idea of what's going on with the scale. I have pretty good feelings about it, though.

Sorry I haven't been on the board in a few days, but some pretty unpleasant situations arose that kept me quite occupied. Those things are much better, now, as well.
    -Chris

Well, we seem to be losing members along the way! I guess I'm going to get to use those stillettos, yet!

I haven't varied from plan even one bit. I'm very, very proud of myself. A cousin and his wife came by for a visit this afternoon, and they brought a numbers of traditional Christmas goodies. I just walked by them as if they weren't there!

Exercise is still pretty spotty. That back pain is being really stubborn, though I was told that I could expect if for up to two weeks. I've been doing just as much as I'm able to do, but I look forward to it's being more.

So, how about the rest of you? C'mon, we can do this -- New Year's eve is just around the corner!

Wow, Chris, I guess it's just you and me against the carbs!

Yesterday was a good day! My dd and I are hosting a Mother-Daughter Christmas tea on Wednesday and I made these little Lemon Gem Tassies. I wasn't even tempted to do any BLT's during the making process! Yay me!

        12/19:
        B: 5 slices bacon
L: 3 oz Pepper Jack Cheese
D: 10 oz steak, 3 cups green leaf lettuce with 2 Tbsp feta and 2 Tbsp greek dressing

I really do need to start having some veggies with lunch, but I can't get to the grocery every day and since they started shrink-wrapping the cukes, they get smushy really fast. I asked them why they are shrink-wrapping the cukes and they said, "Uh, they just come that way." Ooooookay.

        Water: 128 oz.

        Exercise: 60 minutes Elliptical Trainer

Great work, Terrie! Hey, if it's just you and me, at least the two of us will be able to really bring in a Happy New Year. I'll be toasting you with a big glass of Perrier!

Oh, yep, they're right about those cukes. Haven't you ever been to a modern cucumber farm, and seen all those little plastic wrapped cukes on the vine? It's genetic engineering -- that's how they grow, now!

I'm still around..... I've been on vacation and not on the 'puter as much as I usually am.....

Eating's been good, water consumption good, exercise is stepping up a bit since I'm getting over my cold/flu/whatever-it-was.

Count me in that toast, but with Diet Ginger Ale!!

The funny thing is when we moved here this summer, the cukes were NOT wrapped in plastic and now they are. Hmmm, have we entered The Cucumber Zone?

The shrink-wrapped cucumbers are called seedless or English cucumbers, have think skin and all are wrapped like that. The unwrapped cucumbers are American cucumbers and have seeds and a thicker skin. It sounds like the supplier for your cucumbers changed as the growing season did. Just my opinion based on what I have read.

That seems reasonable, except the unwrapped cukes were not shaped like American cukes. They were shaped exactly like the ones we have now and were listed on the sign as being English cukes. It's not really that important, I guess! It just seems to me that they get mushy faster now that they are shrink-wrapped.

My hubby has noticed that I've become a little more passionate about my salad eating, though. I will say that when lettuce was only 78 cents a bunch, I was a little cavalier about letting it get nasty before I could use it and just chunking the lot into the biodegradable (sp?) waste. Now that it's up to $2.87/pound I've become very determined to eat ALL of it before it gets nasty!!

                  Report for 12/20:

Great! I'm glad to see that it's not just Terrie and me who're still hanging in there. I'm doing so -- with a passion! Yesterday my 19 year old nephew brought over a bunch of homemade orange/cranberry muffins that he'd made, himself. When he came in, he said that they were for his grandparents and Michael. He knew that I wouldn't eat them, and apologized for not bringing me anything, but said that he wasn't clear on what I could eat. I told he that he needn't worry, that I had everything I needed right here.

I have been trying to walk more, although the bruised back muscles seem to be really stubborn about healing. Michael and I went for quite a long walk yesterday afternoon. It's not much -- but it's something!
