  • Re: The Millionaires Club - Saving $$ challenge!

So all three of my items sold. A couple for a little more than I thought they would and one for a little less. The good news is I charged a flat rate additional for shipping, so I made out a little there. I have all the packaging here as I get LOTS of packages sent here as my place of business, so that helped. Printing & paying for shipping is so easy with eBay....ver ynice. They're all wrapped up and ready to go! I think in the end I netted about $60.00. So...was it worth getting rid of clutter and maybe 20 minutes of work. Yeah, I guess so. Plus, now I get to cancel one of m radios from my subscription and that'll save me like $7/month I think.

That's pretty cool, higgies! I thought about using the service of a local Power Seller from Ebay to sell my unwanted stuff. He gets a cut of what is sold, but he also does all the work. I might give it a go later in the summer.

Ooooo! You can do that? How do you -what's his cut-- are there any catches?? That would be the answer to my prayers, i think...

Yes, sounds too good to be true... just let someone take your leftovers, say, after your yard sale, and he sends you additional cash based on sale price?

Yes, Susan, that's how it works....I have sold on ebay for over 8 years and have acted as a "trading assistant" for others...and my advice is to do it yourself unless you have big ticket, highly desirable items and you just don't want to mess with the details...if you don't have those type items, you aren't likely to find someone to take it on a straight percentage - they'll want a min. fee per listing in case your stuff doesn't sell - because they don't want to do the work for a percentage of $0...and if you do find someone to take it based on that, it will be because the percentage is outrageous. And that % is in addition to all of the ebay fees involved in the transaction. If you're talking about yard sale leftovers, it's not likely to be very profitable for you or a third party seller. I hate to be a "downer" but you really have to be careful with the stuff you list or you could end up with a whole lotta fees for auctions that didn't go over well. I learned this the hard way early on.

This guy keeps 15-20% depending on the item and then there is a flat fee too. Basically, you go to his house with the stuff...he'll sort it with you and let you know what he'll start the bidding at, etc. He'll then send you an e-mail with all the listing numbers so that you can keep track of the auction. If an item doesn't sell for whatever reason, he'll either try again or give the item back to you. I'll have to look at his ad again to find out his Ebay username, but he's definately a power seller with 1000s of sales and a 99% good reputation thingy. I original learned about him in an article through the local newspaper.

Maybe there's someone in your area that'll do something similar?

Something to consider though with Ebay is they do have a listing fee. If the item does not sell you are still responsible for that fee and if you want to relist it hits you again.
Not sure but think it was like 3% when my son was selling Elmo's at christmas.

I would love to join in this if I may. This is something I have a great interest in. I am constantly struggling with our budget. I did start writing down everything we spend money on for the next month. I am ALWAYS interested in hearing ideas and goals of other people...
