  • The DANDR READING CLUB Challenge

    Hey all,

One of my resolutions for the new year (thanks, Dawn) is to pick up my copy of DANDR and re-read it. If ever there was a case of "knowledge is power"...this WOE is it!

Anyone want to join me? We'll start at Chapter 1, read it, discuss it, ask questions (we'll drag 2Big in here to help us) and then move to the next Chapter.

If there's interest, we'll officially begin on Monday, January 10. That will give everyone time to get a copy of the book if they need one. It MUST be the 2002 edition!

We'll go slow to accomodate those who don't have a lot of time to sit down and read -- one Chapter a week, but some more detailed ones may take two weeks.

If you join, you need to commit to hanging in for the ENTIRE book -- OWL, pre-maintenance, maintenance and all... no slacking! LOL

    Who's in?

MOI???????? Oh I love reading DANDR but I had to get a hard back copy so my page numbers won't match yours. My old books the bindings let go and the pages started falling out

Actually, both of mine are different. I have the white cover and the red cover and they are different page numbers . We will just need to be careful and use page numbers and use the paragraph heading to discuss a point, i.e. Chapter 1, Why is the Atkins Nutritional Approach So Revolutionary and SO Right, page 11.

I sleep with the book under my pillow. Does this count? I read the book monthly, so just count me in by rote. :joy

                        I'm definatly in.

I'm new at this WOE (day 17) and so it would be really helpful for me to able to discuss and ask questions.

                        Great idea.

Sounds good. I just started reading it last night, so I'll just fall in with the rest of you.

By the way, I've seen a few times on this board that you should use the 2002 edition. Why is this? Is a new version not as good, or is it an older version that you should steer away from? Thanks in advance for your help.

Edited because I type like a retard when I'm typing fast. :geek

We'll start next Monday - January 10. That will give new folks a chance to sign up, and give everyone a chance to get a copy of the book (Try E-bay, Amazon.com, Wal-Mart, or your local public library!).

YES, there is a difference between the 2002 edition (which is actually the last edition that Dr. Atkins himself wrote) and later editions. I believe the later editions tend to preach the use of frankenfoods. ADBB itself is geared around the 2002 edition.

We'll try hard NOT to refer to page numbers so everyone can adjust to their copy.

I'll start a brand new thread called DANDR READING GROUP in the CHALLENGES forum on Sunday (01/09) evening. In that post, I will have a few key questions regarding the Preface and Chapter 1 -- so you can keep your eye out for the answers while you're reading during the week.

I think the purpose of the group should be:

                            1) To ask questions on material you don't understand;
                            2) To comment on what you've read that you believe is most important to successful Atkins, and
                            3) To apply what you've read to your current Atkins situation -- what have you read that you need to improve on or change? What have you read that you didn't know/understand before?

Anyone have other suggestions?? How about different weekly group leaders? Does everyone have time to read a chapter a week or do we need two weeks? Anything else I'm not thinking of? All comments welcome!!!
