We'll start next Monday - January 10. That will give new folks a chance to sign up, and give everyone a chance to get a copy of the book (Try E-bay, Amazon.com, Wal-Mart, or your local public library!).
YES, there is a difference between the 2002 edition (which is actually the last edition that Dr. Atkins himself wrote) and later editions. I believe the later editions tend to preach the use of frankenfoods. ADBB itself is geared around the 2002 edition.
We'll try hard NOT to refer to page numbers so everyone can adjust to their copy.
I'll start a brand new thread called DANDR READING GROUP in the CHALLENGES forum on Sunday (01/09) evening. In that post, I will have a few key questions regarding the Preface and Chapter 1 -- so you can keep your eye out for the answers while you're reading during the week.
I think the purpose of the group should be:
1) To ask questions on material you don't understand;
2) To comment on what you've read that you believe is most important to successful Atkins, and
3) To apply what you've read to your current Atkins situation -- what have you read that you need to improve on or change? What have you read that you didn't know/understand before?
Anyone have other suggestions?? How about different weekly group leaders? Does everyone have time to read a chapter a week or do we need two weeks? Anything else I'm not thinking of? All comments welcome!!!

As far as a time limit for reading, I think some Chapters will take longer and with more discussion than others. Chapter one should be pretty easy but once we start getting into 11 and 18, they may take longer to digest. Could we say one week but then at the end of that week, decide whether to move on or continue the discussion? I would be afraid that if there is to much time between the Chapter, folks will get bored and move on.
Your doing a great job organizing this. I think it will benefit all of us.

I think that's an excellent idea. There are several chapters that are "more involved" than others. So as we approach the end of one chapter, we'll take a look at the next and decide what time frame we need to go over it.
I'm really excited about this. I've read DANDR but it's been awhile and I can admit to "skimming" over some chapters. Plus, as I approach serious OWL and pre-maintenance, and DH approaches Maintenance, my needs for information from DANDR have changed. What you look for during Induction is different than what you look for in the later stages -- if that makes sense!
It's all good
Now....how about discussion leaders? Rotate with each chapter? You don't want me leading this whole thing -- I "talk" too much and will bore you to death! LOL

and no fair reading the topic and then poosting your reply to Joan's questions :yikes :yikes cliff notes DANDR reading club this isn't.
Joan how about doing a new topic each chapter for the servers sake and maybe Lynn could move them to the memeerable topics area and we could send newbies there to use the topic as a study guid for the chapter we are referring them to like chapter 11 incudtion chapter 8 fiber chapter 22 exercise chapter 15 plateaus and chapter 20 metabolic resitance as exampoles of what I mean.

That's a great idea -- that will prevent this all from getting so long you can't keep up. I'll do that -- a new thread for each new chapter.

I am in. I have the red cover book and the white book too. I have one copy at home and one at school, because I don't want to give the wrong advice. I want to get the hard back copy also as I know my paperbacks will wear out on me eventually. The only reason they haven't worn out so far is the fact that the first two copies of the book I got I gave to others. Finally bought two copies for me, and I decided no more giving up my copies of the book.
i just gave my hard back copy to the youth minister. I mean when somebody says they are looking to lose weight and want to know what I eat what can you do but share your book so they can become the best possible loser they can be.
Will be making a trip to the bookstore tomorrow
I got to get some paperback ones to pass out though. I'm thinking of puting that line from the country song Chain of love by Clay Walker on the inside cover
You don't owe me a thing, I've been there too
Someone once helped me out,
Just the way I'm helping you
If you really want to pay me back,
Here's what you do
Don't let the chain of love end with you
and then pass this book on
so they don't gather dust on somebodies shelf when they are finished using it either cause they know it or they jumped off the wagon.
Really off topic, but once there were a bunch of us who loved to read and so we started sending books to eachother with a note that if they liked it to write something in the inside cover and mail it on. I often wondered if any of those books are still circulating.

I haven't been in a reading club since high school, but I'm in. I just picked up a new copy today. I think I got the correct one.. the copyright says 1992, 1999, 2002.
I realize that this isn't standard procedure, but due to the subject matter of this thread, I've made it an "Announcement" instead of letting it remain a normal thread or even a "Stickie"!!
Lynne just told me about the challenges and I'd like to join the DANDR reading challenge. I've read thebook before but just restarted Induction the 29th of December. I will finish tomorrow. So this is a good time to start re-reading the book. When do we "get together" for discussions? urplequ: I do have a 2002 version but my cover is multi-colored stripes. I gave my old one to a friend several years ago my first go round. I hope I'm not a day late and a dollar short
Should we keep the challenge waitng for your return or should somebody else pick it up?
