That's fine! You might want to add giving up that crack as one of your goals!

In relation to nothing, but Sunny, Shenandoah Valley of Virginia sounds like paradise. Has the foliage been spectacular?

Sadly, we had such a drought this summer and fall, plus higher than usual temperatures, there is almost no color. The trees are still green and the leaves are expected to just turn brown and fall off. The Shenandoah Valley is absolutely beautiful. I've been all over, and I love every place I've been, but Virginia is still my favorite.

        Sunny!

Hey guys, thank you so much for the motivation and support. Sunny, I particularly like the quotes by Carnegie and Coolidge. Y'all really did make a difference in my mood that day, and I didn't have a single peanut butter cup.

          Many thanks!

Sounds wonderful. We live in the Berkshires and had a few stunning days with leaves of the most magnificent assortment of browns, golds, reds... I was out there with my camera shooting away. Then the rain came and it kind of all browned but in a way, the fact that it's so short makes it that much more special. Just like the cherry blossoms.

I'm glad you're doing better, Titian!

Where I live, we have very few trees, so we appreciate whatever color or leaves we see. I'd love to visit the Shenandoah Valley. Sounds wonderful.

I am feeling better, Looseshoes - thanks to a couple of better days and some exercise (not to mention the wonderful supportive things everyone posted).

We're up in New England where the leaf change is a fairly major event, but it's pretty much over at this point. The temps have been so much warmer that the season started early and didnt last very long. I am happy with the warmer temps, to be honest, but I miss my leaves.

I went to school in VA for one year, Sunny, at Hollins College. I loved it, I missed it, and have been kicking myself forever for not staying there my full four years.

I am so excited! After a month of steroids and gaining 7 pounds because of it, I'm finally down 2 pounds today! Last time I was on Atkins I quit when I was on steroids. Thanks for helping me stick with it and through it this time. 5 pounds to go to be where I was Oct 1, but at least it's going the right way.

Well done Looseshoes! That's amazing! It's the small victories that make it all worth it and inspire us all so keep posting them!

BTW, well done Alexa for winning the veggie challenge! Still have to look up what it was exactly but sounds like it was a lot of fun!

Sorry, folks, for not being around much the last couple of days. I've been having it really rough. When my sister left yesterday morning, I just went back to bed and stayed there most of the day and night. I feel a good bit better today. I'm trying to get myself to get up and do something, but that's not working out just yet!

I've lived alone since 1990, when my youngest child went to Rhode Island to college and my sister has lived alone for much longer than that. I love her dearly, but she has a strong, opinionated personality, and my house started to feel smaller and smaller each day that she stayed. She is 16 years older than me and was a strong supporter and influence on me as I grew up. I'm glad when she comes and glad when she leaves. I couldn't have done it without her. She did things for me that were really hard for her, with her very weak stomach. I was gagging at the sight of her emptying the four drains, measuring the output, and dumping them, and it was my blood and body fluids.

Looseshoes--you are doing fantastic! I was shot up with steroids before my surgery, and I immediately gained 4 pounds, which has just come back off.

You are welcome to come visit the Shenandoah Valley and I can be your tour guide! I am a photographer and as soon as I am a little better, I will post a link to one of my photobucket accounts of pictures of where I live and the surrounds.

Muffy--I'm so glad you are feeling better. Learning to live with, and around the stressors in our very busy lives takes a very long while, but that is what making this a lifestyle change is all about. It is unlikely that the stresses of everyday life will get much better, but how we react to them can be changed considerably.

The Hollins College (now University) campus is stunningly beautiful in every season. I make sure I drive by every time I am in Roanoke.

Aya--I've never been to the Berkshires, but have always wanted to go. I have been to quite a bit of New England, but never in the fall. It's still on my to-do list.

Alexa--congrats on the Veggie Challenge. I love veggies!

                      More later!
                      Sunny!

Wow! Two days with no posts! Hope everyone is staying strong over the weekend.

I was gone for most of the day and I packed lunch so I wouldn't get too hungry. It worked well, though I chose to bake a turkey breast when I got home late and was starving by the time it was ready. I still have a problem getting full when I get too hungry before I eat. I was still hungry and I am still feeling hungry, but I didn't eat anything else after dinner. Anyway, that was the first time I had driven in three weeks and the first time I was gone from home from 8:15 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. I survived, but was in a lot of pain.

I'm really excited about tomorrow's weigh-in. Even though I am still swollen from surgery, when I weighed in on Friday, I was 2 pounds lower than I have ever been since starting. I won't change my siggy weight until I have held that weight for a week. I usually don't wear pants to church, but I wore a pair of dress pants today, since dressing is still a problem (still bandaged). The last time I wore them, they fit comfortably, but today, they were really baggy. Woo hoo!

                          Sunny!

Way to go, Sunny! That's such a great feeling to feel your clothes getting baggy. I hope you get out of the rest of your bandages soon. This weekend has been crazy busy, and then daughter had a lit letter she was working on, so I haven't had much computer time.

I was pretty proud of myself yesterday. I went with the 8th grade band to All-Region band tryouts--from 6:30 am to 6 pm. They had chocolate covered cinnamon rolls there. They are my absolute favorite kind of doughnut. I don't think I can even get them in my town. Someone was eating one right in front of me. I really wanted one. But, instead, I dug in my goody bag and got out some macadamia nuts and ate them instead. Funny thing is, I refused to eat nuts at all before this round of Atkins. I had my quota measured out in a baggie so I wouldn't over eat. I was satisfied and felt better that I resisted than I would have if I had succumbed.

                                MONDAY STATS CHECK 11/5

                                Hey all.

Made it through my 4 year old's birthday party/inlaw visit (they fly home tomorrow). Drank quite a bit of coffee, and ate quite a few more calories than I prefer, but did not cheat and wasn't particularly tempted by the birthday cakes or sundaes at the party. I had my champagne, I had my sugar free cookies, and the temptations are over, with me victorious.

Not a great week challenge wise, but I will be honest - for me, it's not about winning the challenge or getting the most points. Just knowing that I am accountable to some other (great) folks helps keep me focused on my goals and keeps me honest. I have drunk less coffee. I have exercised more and watched my calories more strictly. I feel great about that, and it's showing on the scale (at least before the water weight packed on from the sugar-free cookies). I am ooching down from 146 to 145 finally, and that, considering the previous month, is an accomplishment. So I have said it before and I will say it again, thank you so much fellow Slow Losers.

                                No coffee: 3/7 0pts
                                Exercise 4 days: 2/4 0pts
                                Less than 1500 calories: 5/7 0pts
No grazing after dinner: 6/7 0pts

                                Extra Credit: coming soon.
