Re: Slow Losers Club Christmas Challenge

My story is that my doctor put me on steroid pills today. I'll be on them for several weeks, so I know I need to really stay focused. Steroids are definitely not helpful to weight loss, so I need extra support to not just throw everything away that I've worked so hard for. I quit Atkins before when I had to take the pills--either steroids or the iritis or both sent me into a bad spiral mood wise. I've been stuck for 3 weeks now weight-wise. Most of my problem is focus lately.

So, I'll start today. I'm on OWL rung 5. I'll post 3 times a week at least.

        My goals:
        1. Post to my challenges (all of them) at least 4 times a week
        2. Exercise a minimum of 5 days a week. I can't do the exercises I have been doing because of my eye problems, but I CAN do something, and I will get back as soon as I can.
        3. Diary my food daily--EVERY DAY
        4. Reduce chocolate snacks to no more than twice a week and attempt to make it zero. (I'm weak and a raging chocoholic--this will be really hard)

I'd like to lose 10 pounds by Christmas--but right now it's just something to aim for, not sure what's really realistic at this point.

        So, it's focus time!

Thanks, Sunny, you'll be a great leader!

Re: Slow Losers Club Christmas Challenge

Welcome Caryl! Your pledges look great. Since we are all slow losers and within sight of goal, I don't think anyone is going to pledge a certain number to lose. I know I can't. If I did, I'm sure my body would just sit back and laugh itself silly.

I was shot up with steroids last week, and I my weight jumped up three pounds overnight. I was allowed to eat almost nothing that day. I have only lost one pound of it since last Wednesday. All you can do is your best.

Good attitude about the exercise. If we try hard enough, we can figure out something. I have even started very gently to use my recumbent stepper at a very low tension, for just a few minutes a day. I haven't caused any trauma to my neck or spine, so I'm going to keep doing it until the day before surgery.

I think this challenge will help keep us all focused. I know I feel very motivated already. Glad you're on board. We can do this together.

          Sunny!

              My daily check-in. I'm 4 for 4 of the 7 listed pledges for today. No.'s 3, 4, & 7 did not apply today.

#4 Will apply tomorrow when I go to UVA. I already have emergency stuff in the trunk of my car and will pack something light in case I get home late.
I've been a cooking machine today to get ready for surgery and am very tired. Night, all!

Thanks for the welcome, Sunny! I'm going to try to do some squats and see if I can do some crunches.

Neck pain is horrible, it's hard to do much of anything without hurting yourself. Hope all goes well tomorrow!

I'm just so impressed and inspired at you losing 120 pounds! You're doing great and we'll all make it to goal with all this wonderful support.

Re: Slow Losers Club Christmas Challenge

Hi Sunny and everyone else on this challenge!
Sorry I'm a day late, in MA yesterday was a public holiday and we spent the long weekend in Vegas... Needless to say buffets every day have strengthened my resolve to get serious and shed the 13 pounds that cling to me like like they're fighting for their life!

                  My pledges:
#1: Step up the exercise routine -
                  * Cardio five to six times per week. At least three 60 min sessions. rest no less than 30.
                  * Pilates Bum and Legs workout twice times per week. Billy Blanks Bootcamp (Don't laugh, it's fab!) twize per week.
                  * Abs, hips and bum weights at gym three times per week.
#2: Limit nuts to only one serving max per day.
                  #3: No snacking after dinner.
#4: No Atkins bars except in dire emergencies.
#5: Weigh in on Mon and Fri but don't get flustered and ruin an entire day after a bad weigh-in. Keep plodding along!
#6: Continue writing down what I eat each day and start recording my measurements ASAP (okay, today, Tues)

I think I'm going to have to tweak this as I want to limit more things like cocoa powder and cheese but am nervous in case I can't stick to it.

Sunny, good luck with all your surgery preparations and thanks for putting all this together!

Titian, I'm the same as you during dinner preparation - the worst! What I often do now is stick a piece of gum in my mouth when I'm starting just so nothing else can be sneaked in. And I always keep a bottle of water nearby so that if I'm eyeing something too closely I can dive for a few slugs of water and hopefully diffuse the situation!

Looking forward to doing this with you all!

Sign up is all this week. We will be tweaking until Friday. Everyone can tweak their pledges until Friday, as well. The challenge was conceived and thrown together quickly, but we will make it work. It's gonna be great!

Re: Slow Losers Club Christmas Challenge

                      Hey All,

Yesterday went well! Well, pretty well. I think I was slightly over my 1500 because I forgot to count the meat on my spaghetti squash spaghetti.

I hit the stairmaster hard for 20 minutes. Sounds wussy, but considering I haven't been on one in several years, let me tell you those 20 minutes were tough!

I had no coffee. Not one cup. Drank hot Tea 2 Go instead. No calories, no carbs. Not as tough as I thought. Unfortunately I am at home today with a very sick toddler, and my Jura Capresso calling me downstairs. I must resist!

I still grazed a little around the kitchen while I was cooking last night. Starving when I got home, and nibbled the leftover bacon strips from breakfast. Made my own dinner, but picked a couple of meatballs out of the pot of spaghetti sauce for the kids. I tried having a beverage in my hands the whole time, but that didn't help as much as I had hoped. Funny thing - I tend to graze on leftover protein. Meatballs, potroast, bacon...I will pick the beef out of beef stew. Carbs have never been my downfall. I have a much worse time with protein. I am going to have to find some ways to combat this. Maybe a big snack, preferably pork rinds or something protein-y on my way home from work so I am genuinely not hungry before I start cooking.

Anyway, that's day one for me. Up a pound and a half, but I started hard exercise yesterday so no surprise.

Sunny, send me a PM and outline details of what you need me to do (please be very specific - my schedule tends to be crazy and I don't want to drop the ball for anyone).

Thanks All - on to day 2!

Titan I did the same exact thing by cutting the coffee and opting for tea instead. So far it's working ok...lol.

                          Hi,

                          Welcome to all newcomers

I've decided to post everyday that I can with how the pledges are going:

                          1) No caffeine, not even decaf coffee - yep
                          2) No splenda whatsoever - yep
                          3) Cocoa powder only on weekends as desserts - yep, did this yesterday too for the first time and was fine
                          4) Fitday everyday - yep
                          5) Exercise 5-6 days a week - sick at the mo, but will try a walk this pm and some abs
                          6) No alcohol except when socialising at weekends outside of the house (just with BF doesn't count!) - yep
                          7) Smoothies only 3x a week as I'm concerned they are too heavy on the dairy - for this week 1/3 so far

Edited to say - how could I forget! I'm down 2lbs already, but then again, I've been fluctuating a lot, so we'll see.

Titian, I have the same problem - always noshing on the protein! I try and keep a bag of ready-to-eat celery sticks in the fridge so they can tide me through the dinner-making process if gum is not cutting it.

I saw a post recently of someone (sorry, forgot their name) who took before and after pics in a bikini to show her workout progress and think I should try it... I'll definitely save you all the horror of posting them, but just thought it was a good way to notice if my workout was actually effective or if I need to try something different.

                              Hi Aya!

Yeah, I need some sort of really really legal nosh to keep around for when I am cooking. Celery is depressing, but perhaps effective, and zip on the cals and carbs. I might try that tonight.

Adre, you are awesome. I think we tend to run into a lot of the same hurdles, and often come up with the same solutions. I like your style (lol).
